Bea OK. Here I go. I chose the Agatha Award Best First Novel from 1988 - 1997.

1988: A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George - available in local library
1989: Grime and Punishment by Jill Churchill - available in GA library system
1990: The Body in the Belfry by Katherine Hall Page - available in GA library system
1991: Zero at the Bone by Mary Willis Walker - available in GA library system
1992: Blanche on the Lam by Barbara Neely - available in library system
1993: Track of the Cat by Nevada Barr - available in library system
1994: Do Unto Others by Jeff Abbott - will try to get through interlibrary loan or may have to buy used
1995: The Body In The Transept by Jeanne M. Dams - available in GA library system
1996: Murder on a Girls' Night Out by Anne George - available in GA library system
1997: The Salaryman's Wife by Sujata Massey - available in GA library system

Since 8 of 10 of these books will be available only through library loan, I suspect I will end up doing a random read, although I will attempt to read in order.

Andrea Homier (mtbluestocking) I have put together a couple of plans -- not that I believe I will get to both, but they were fun to piece together. The first plan is National Book Award winners from 1992 - 2001 (no particular reason for this decade), and the second is different awards from 1979 - 1988 (my college years and shortly after). Both of them have several books on my TBR shelf. Whichever plan I end up choosing, I will read in order for the extra points. ;-)

First Set: National Book Award, 1992 - 2001

1992 All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy
1993 The Shipping News by Annie Proulx
1994 A Frolic of His Own by William Gaddis
1995 Sabbath's Theater by Phillip Roth
1996 Ship Fever: Stories by Andrea Barrett
1997 Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
1998 Charming Billy by Alice McDermott
1999 Waiting by Ha Jin
2000 In America by Susan Sontag
2001 The Corrections bu Jonathan Franzen

Second Set: Different Awards, 1979 - 1988

1979, National Book Critics Circle Award:
The Year of the French by Thomas Flanagan

1980, National Book Award:
Sophie's Choice by William Styron

1981, PEN/Faulkner Award:
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

1982, Man Booker Prize:
Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally

1983, Pulitzer Prize:
Is There No Place on Earth for Me? by Susan Sheehan

1984, American Book Award:
A Puerto Rican in New York, and Other Sketches by Jesus Colon
