It's finally summer! Woo! What books are you planning on spending all that awesome free time with? Which challenge do they complete (if any)? Are you going to go to the beach to enjoy that book?

message 2: by Duskangelreads (new)

Duskangelreads | 27 comments I chose to do the Read 1,200 pages challenges.

My TBR:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 20th Anniversary edition
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition
The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

And no I won't be reading by the beach, for one thing no beach near me and two is winter in Aus. I would like my fingers to stay attached to my body! 😂

message 3: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 8 comments I'm doing the 1,200 pages challenge, except within that I plan to read a graphic novel, a book that's been on my TBR for over 2 years, someone else's favourite and a book with multiple authors.
It's going to rain for the rest of this week and all of next in Ireland so no beach time for me :(

message 4: by Peter (new)

Peter (petemoss) | 12 comments I'm reading The Child Thief (first book on my bookshelf I haven't read). It's been on the list for a while, so it'll be nice to finally read it! I don't know if I'll complete the challenge, though, because I'm going to be traveling this week and I'll be very busy. (No beach, unfortunately.)

message 5: by Manda (new)

Manda (mandathebiblio) | 1 comments I need to go through (as I'm joining this late) and decide if I want to catch up by reading the ones I've missed or just figure out if I can fit them up to this point with past reads. Then I'll get back to this!

¹ó°ùø²â»å¾±²õ (olissa) | 1 comments I haven't actually done any of this year's read-a-thons yet (much shame). I've been staring at the messages, contemplating... but then not committed.
But my summer break has officially started, and here I was with the urge to read, in need of inspiration.
I've picked the "someone else's favorite book" for this challenge, and I'm reading Graceling by Kristin Cashore. My friend has been raving about it, and that says something, because she doesn't like to read all that much.

I've decided to read Satellite by Nick Lake which is a book that has to do with traveling (from Moon 2 to Earth!). I don't go to the beach often, so that is 99.9% not on the cards for me this week. Plus, I don't really like reading outside as much. I'm more of an indoor person. ;P

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm also joining for the first time, so I want to start completing some of the challenges. For this round, I've picked "Start or finish a series" Beyond the Shadows and "A graphic novel" Giant Days Vol. 5

If I have time I'd like to read Perfect Shadow and complete "A short story" but it's not a priority for now. No beach for me either :'( but excited to join in the readathon!

message 9: by Sara (new)

Sara S. (millionbookstoread) I'm going to be reading The Selection by Kiera Cass for the book that been on my TBR for 2+ Years. I have the whole series, I just haven't gotten around to reading them...yet :)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 3 comments I was looking up readathons that are going on this summer, and I found that this one (or the June portion, at any rate) would be starting in seven minutes as of the moment I found it. Seems like I'm destined for it, so here we go.

For this challenge I am choosing a book that has been on my TBR for 2+ years, and that book will be Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. How I've put this one off I don't know, but now is the time. Or rather, as soon as I've finished Sourcery by Terry Pratchett. So sometime this week definitely.

message 11: by BlurryBug (new)

BlurryBug | 30 comments I got a short tbr this time (just started a new job!! yay!) have less reading time.
so i want to read
If I Was Your Girl
Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
Giant Days, Vol. 3

If I by some miracle end up having spare time I want to start book 2 of the Magicians The Magician King

message 12: by Duskangelreads (new)

Duskangelreads | 27 comments Ignore the post of mine above. I was typing and it just posted somehow! Considering the post button is right up the top left of my phone screen and the keyboard is at the bottom I don't know how that happened!

So yes day 1 is over for my in Aus.

I am doing the Read 1,200 pages challenge.

I read 288 pages total today!
I read 264 pages of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and I listened to 20 pages worth of The Raven Boys on Audiobook! I have put a tab in my physical copy of the book so I can keep track of how many pages worth I have actually listened to.

So after today I only have 912 pages to go which I am really happy with! 😄😄😄

message 13: by Casey (new)

Casey (caseyvanpatten) This will be my first ever read-a-thon. I'm in a bit of a reading slump, so I thought the challenge would be a good way to engage me and get me reading again.

My main goal is to complete the 1,200 page challenge, but I think I can fit in at least 3 more challenges into that TBR.

My TBR is:

Once and for All by Sarah Dessen
Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby (I'll listen to the audiobook)
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West (Someone Else's Favorite Book)
O Pioneers! by Willa Cather (On my TBR for 2+ Years)
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway (A Short Story)

Crossing my fingers, but I think this is doable and just what I need!

message 14: by Emelie (new)

Emelie (enemelie) | 1 comments Hello, I'm doing the "start o finish a series" challange, because I have sooo many to finish! So this is my tbr:

- The Upside of the Unrequited by Becky Albertalli (even though it's a stand-alone, I'm counting it as a sequel to Simon vs. the Homosapiens agenda... is that OK?)

- Eld (Engelsfors 2) by Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark-Elfgren

- Nyckeln (Engelsfors 3, final book) by Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark- Elfgren

- Library of Souls (final book in the Miss Peregrine's series) by Ransom Riggs

It's a bit big, but I'm doing my best!!

Today I read just about the first 100 pages of Library of Souls, and I'm working my way through The Upside of the Unrequited this evening.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Because this is my first time participating I decided to try and catch up a little by tackling three of the challenges.
A 2017 debut author: Daughter of the Pirate King
A book that has to do with travelling: The Buried Giant
And the first unread book on your shelf: The Dark Prophecy
I'm very excited to get to all of these!! Also, I will be going to the beach! But for hiking in the area, so I probably won't get much reading done...

message 16: by Jason (new)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 3 comments Finished Sourcery and started Catching Fire this morning. My goal is to read at least 100 pages of it per day to get through it before the end of Wednesday. I'm on page 25 right now.

Ashley (ashb22) | 9 comments My goal is to read a book with traveling in it. For this I chose Forever in Blue The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood (Sisterhood, #4) by Ann Brashares
There's no beach where I live, but I've been spending quite a bit of time already reading on the lake:)

I've started the challenge TBR 2+ years and for that I'm reading Heat of the Night by Donna Kauffman

message 19: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 8 comments My TBR

•Supremacy of the cybermen 1-5 Around 150 pages
•Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo 186 pages
•The bad beginning by Lemony Snicket 162 pages
•The invisible man by H.G. Wells 410 pages
And maybe the ambassadors of death by Terrance dicks at 146 pages.

message 20: by Duskangelreads (new)

Duskangelreads | 27 comments Here is my Day 3 update!

I'm doing the Read 1,200 page challenge

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Gryffindor Edition) - 355 pages
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Illustrated Edition) - 259 pages
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon - 307 pages
The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil - 328 pages

I am also listening to The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater on Audiobook, this is just an extra. It is the book of the month for a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ group I'm in. It is a reread for me, so I chose to listen to the audiobook. It wasn't part of my original TBR and I'm not too worried about when I get it finished. I have read 69 pages of it.

Total as of Day 3: 683 pages. 517 to go! So I'm over half way! 😄

message 21: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I only joined in on the read-a-thon last month, and I wasn't very active here then (end of the school year for me - handed in my bachelor's thesis phhew!) and so I have decided to catch up now in the beginning. In may, I finished "Start or finish a series" (finished Percy Jackson and the Olympians), "A short story" and "A nonfiction book". This time I also went for three challenges:

A book that's been on your TBR for 2+ years: The Man Who Forgot His Wife

A book with multiple authors: Chosen

A graphic novel: Maus II: A Survivor's Tale: And Here My Troubles Began

It is currently day 4, and I have finished all of them! So on to Sense and Sensibility, which isn't part of the read-a-thon at all... Good luck everybody!

message 22: by Jason (new)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 3 comments Almost forgot to check in here and confirm that I did finish Catching Fire on Wednesday. I had to read about 170 pages that evening but the book was great so that made it easy. 😎

message 23: by BlurryBug (new)

BlurryBug | 30 comments Totally forgot to update in the group this time around.
on Saturday I finished If I Was Your Girl this just added to my 1200 pages
On Sunday I finished Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? this was my non-fiction
On Monday I finished Giant Days, Vol. 3
On Wednesday I finished The Magician King this adds to the start/finish a series
and today I finished Fangirl this was a friends of mine favourite book in 2015.

Think that's all I will get to this readathon as it's almost bedtime here
