Section 3

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Chapters 12-16.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling things for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later sections/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Mars battle! Nothing really of note to discuss, just a lot of fast paced action. It does seem like things are going to easy though. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop..

Lindsay | 546 comments This is the first one in this series that I've predominantly read rather than listened to. One of the things that this has highlighted for me is something I guess I've been aware of but is not quite so in-your-face in audio and there's some great examples in this section.

The precision of military language. Everything is explicit. Nothing is assumed. Everything is short and to the point ... because this communication may be life-critical.

“Copy that. You gonna send someone up to the control tower to take over ATC duties?

“We will switch to local control for the time being. Can’t have the only red hat in the LZ pushing tin all day. You are authorized to leave without relief by Ground Force Red Actual.

The first part of that second paragraph answers the question, but note the last sentence. Utterly explicit, no room for confusion.

Yeah, IIRC Markos Kloos is former military, so it doesn't surprise me how he'd get those details right. Even when he's making up some of his own terms. It all sounds legit, because it's based in reality/experience.
