I read this novel during my middle/high school years in 2003-2005. This was a fiction genre and I can vaguely remember the plot. It's set in a sort of post-apocalyptic world where it rains acid rain (big detail throughout the book). The teen girl (15-16?) )was living with her father figure who was not supposed to have her but one day some evil men (not sure if they were soldiers, can't remember) invade her home. The father hides her but he is taken away. She sets out on her own to escape the place she lives in through a river on a boat remembering her father figure had told her those men were evil. If they catch her they will do "bad things" to her. On her way she finds a group of women who have had their tongues cut out and so are mute. They are called priestess' I believe and were used for something by these evil men. I believe it was to either have babies or sexual slaves. The girl ends up going to them and find out she is pregnant and joins them.
