Rachel | 1527 comments I think I read this book at my grandparents' house when I was a child, but no-one in my family remembers it. It was a book of short stories for children, and I remember finding it quite old fashioned so think it was published in the early/mid 20th century (I read it in the early 1990s).

The only story I remember in detail was titled, I think, "Let's stay up all night" and was about a brother and sister planning to stay up all night without telling their parents. I think they pretended to go to bed and then later got up and sneaked into another room in the house and stayed up eating snacks etc. Eventually they get sleepy and realise that staying up is not as exciting as they thought.

I think the rest of the book might have been stories about the same brother and sister, and they all possibly had titles starting with "Let's [do something]" where the children would plan to do something but it never worked out quite how they expected.

It was a hardback book and had an Enid Blyton sort of vibe (around the same time period and same "wholesome" feel) but I can't seem to find it in any lists of her short stories, so could have been a different author.

Any help appreciated.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5085 comments Do you remember if there were any illustrations in the book?
What age group did the book target?

Rachel | 1527 comments I'd guess it was for about 7-10 year olds? (not very familiar with reading ages as I don't have kids!)

Now that you mention it, I think there may have been some black and white illustrations. can't remember in detail though as it was so long ago.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1590 comments This sounds familiar to me and I immediately thought of Enid Blyton, too. Could it be Enid Blyton's Happy Hours Story Book (No.2)?

There is a story in that called "We'll Stay Up All Night!"
