Carrie D. Miller (carriedmiller) | 24 comments Hi! I've read conflicting articles about doing press releases. Many say they are a thing of the past, many of say do it. Do you think issuing a PR drives any traffic your way, or are they pointless?

Martin Wilsey | 447 comments I found them very useful. Sold a lot of books for me. Send them to your home town paper. Local boy does good. Send then to your alumni paper. Send them to your local paper.

Websites as well.

Thanks!

Roughseasinthemed | 60 comments Can't harm for the amount of effort involved. I know, easy to say when I wrote them for a living! Also, local radio and local TV as well as local press.

Depending on your book, you may want to go for some of the literary press. Don't forget to change the wording for your different audiences though. Also make sure you have some news, rather than just 'I've written a book'. Examples would be due to be published/just published, good reviews or lots of them, and book signings.

Leo Buijs | 34 comments I second Martin's response. Had huge success with Particularly if the subject is local. Like my guidebooks are doing well thanks to printing the Press release at verbatim.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 787 comments I think their out of date but that's just my thoughts. I always wonder who looks at them? Who are they directed toward? Are they more of an outside way to announce a book?
