I enjoyed this book waaaay more than I thought that I would. I wasn't looking forward to reading a 600 page book about spiders and I almost skipped it. So glad that I didn't. It was a fairly quick read too. It seemed like every time that I sat down with it I knocked out 100-150 pgs without even trying.

Jon, I agree with it being a remarkably easy book to just pick up and read another big section of. It could appear intimidating to people but it's less severe than at first look.
I found out this week that Adrian Tchaikovsky is working on the sequel to this novel. It looks like he has almost finished a rough draft. Really looking forward to this!
I heard about this too and it sounds like it could be rather interesting. Curious about where he could take events after the ending.

Both cultures suffer from internecine strife in this section. In both camp..."

I felt the same way about the ending! Really makes it a great book - I think Tchaikovsky is an interesting thinker.

Glad you enjoyed it Mike! I thought the second book was quite good also. I need to read the third book but since it's been so long since I read the first two I'm afraid I should reread them first. And so I push that decision down the road.

The 2017 Clarke award short list will be announced on May 3rd so it seemed the ideal time to read the current winner of it.
