MissLemon | 592 comments *Disclaimer: The eagle eyed will have spotted that I have already read 44 of the books, but my challenge tally doesn't agree ( and I've only set a target of 42) *(see EDIT below)
This is because when I started the challenge in January I fit the last 10 of the books I read in 2016 into it because I thought I wouldn't read 52 books in 2017. Turns out I probably will so I've just started some challenges in other groups and of my own.
Hope this doesn't break the rules too much!
*EDIT 28/6 Decided not to 'cheat' and use my books from 2016 so edited my list in message 1 and set target at 52*

Kirsten (kmcripn) There really aren't rules per se... there's no prize, no enforcement.

That being said, I wouldn't do what you did because I use the challenge as a year by year way to clean up my backlist and diversify my reading.

I won't again but this is my first year. The 10 books were the ones I read for the challenge (elsewhere)I was doing last year but didn't finish because 1) I didn't like a lot of the topics 2) Stuff happened and I didn't read as much as I'd planned.
I've already read more books this year than the whole of last year so should easily read 52.
If only I hadn't also added so many books to my TBR list at the same time!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Good luck! The most important thing is to have fun with it.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments What did you think of The Naked Civil Servant? I've been wanting to read that for ages, but it's not one that many people seem to read.

Hi, thanks for reading my list! I'm afraid I was a disappointed by The Naked Civil Servant. I've had it on my actual TBR shelf for a long time and the one in my head even longer, probably since watching the film on TV many years ago. I didn't feel like he went into enough detail, and the structure was more like a memoir than an autobiography in that it skipped around. I suppose I also expected lots more gossip about famous people he knew!
I don't want to put you off reading it, though. I'm glad I read it, he was a very interesting and brave man, I just didn't expect him to play this aspect of his personality down so much. I'd be interested to chat with you about it once you've read it.

MissLemon | 592 comments Decided I'm going to bump The Naked Civil Servant from this challenge - I was going to use it for this and my Memoirs challenge but am only going to use it for the latter now. Will be reading a different book from the middle of my TBR list ( as I'm interpreting the challenge to mean the approximate middle anyway)

MissLemon | 592 comments Have decided to remove the books I read prior to the official start and replace with other ones I have/will read in 2017 because I can complete the 52 without 'cheating'.
Original list in message 1 amended ( and shelf)
