Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I'm reading the James Bond books too, although I've o my read the first so far. He's a very different character in the books, that's for sure.

message 11: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I didn't know that he was different in the books, that makes me interested in reading them!

message 12: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments He's not a "good" different ... which is possibly why I haven't gone back for #2 yet! He is totally devoid of the charm & wit of movie-Bond, and is a total misogynist. That said, I still really enjoyed Casino Royale. Ha!

I've read several of the books over the years but not all and not in order. I agree Bond is different but I think much more believable as a character with the job he has to do and as a man of his time. The stories I have read are different and better too, I particularly liked parts of Dr No and all of Diamonds are Forever. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the movies or I wouldn't have read the books, there's just more to the books. But the. I'd probably say that about most book/movie adaptations!
I haven't been able to start on Casino Royale as my copy got lost in the post and I'm waiting for the replacement! Doubly annoying as I have a beautiful pink 1988 copy of Live and Let Die sitting here waiting - it's one of the ones I've never read too.

message 14: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I hadn't thought about that, but it's very true - much more believable as a spy in the books.
