The other thread was getting kind of long so I decided to start a new one.

Just a reminder, besides only posting headlines that are about crimes (and I use the word crime broadly) please be sure to NOT post articles from satire or "fake" news sites.

Thanks and lets get some news!

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments I thought we had a thread for historical true crimes and the progress on them, but I can't find it, so I'm posting this here.

I thought this was an interesting read about new evidence in a 47-year-old case, made more difficult by the fact that the woman used multiple names and presented as a man.

The odd thing to me is that in my day you would never, ever have a kid from downtown killing Muffy or Biff from the Pointes. The city was so segregated in those days that it was pretty rare to have a conversation with someone from "across the border," let alone setting up a clandestine shoe transaction.

It is the same in Canada and especially the elderly. Prescription drugs are another cash cow. There is a lot of talk about chemotherapy and how it can kill you before the cancer does which is very disturbing to hear and also very expensive.

It's unlikely, but if the jury convicts that paves the way for all those victims to mail him, but good, for cash damages in civil court.

Well, there is always that litigation factor. But even that isn't going to touch him. Too rich...too arrogant.

message 21: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18293 comments Arrogance won't affect the judge's decision. And he's not so rich that he won't be hurt by massive damages payments to more than 25 victims. That might not bother Bill Gates, but it would bankrupt Bill Cosby.

message 22: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18293 comments CNN just said the Cosby jury is deadlocked on all 3 counts. The judge sent them in to keep deliberating. He's not putting a time limit on the jury process, thank Scrod; if it takes them all week, or all year, so be it.

Republicans play the Democrats. IIRC it's for charity.

You got it Fishface! That is funny.....! Cosby doesn't give a tinker's cuss what those women went through and it shows by his demeanor. I don't think we should hold our breath waiting for him to get jail time.

But wait! There's more!

message 46: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Yeah, my personal, probably highly unpopular opinion, is that he should not be convicted of this. We're getting perilously near to thought police, IMHO. They're basing their objection, according to the first article, on the possibility that he might, in the future, be more likely to commit a crime, so they want to convict him before he actually commits it. Would you kill Baby Hitler?

message 47: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18293 comments Well, psychologically it could lead a guy either way. He could either reinforce his creepy desire for children or he could fixate instead on silicone children and stay away from the real ones.

This is an even more Thought Police-like idea, but Lo-Jacking guys who buy child sex toys seems more sensible to me than arresting them.
