SF writer Jerry Pournelle has passed away. (Quite unexpectedly, as he was a guest at DragonCon just last week.)

Pournelle is probably best known for his work with Larry Niven on novels such as The Mote in God's Eye, Footfall & Lucifer's Hammer. Solo he wrote Janissaries among many other military scifi stories.

Len Downing | 6 comments Man! I'm sorry to hear that...

Lucifer's Hammer was one of the very first books I ever read, and still dear to my heart.

I know he wasn't young, but any idea what happened?

Silvana (silvaubrey) According to GRRM he caught some bug after attending DragonCon. He fell sick and even posted that in his blog or something. It was sudden.

RIP, I only read one novel, the first and second of the Falkenberg series. I have lots of issues with it but The Mote's book is on my TBR.

Carro | 28 comments King David's Spaceship is a great adventure story - it is sf but in sections is almost a fantasy - due to being on a low tech planet. One of my re-reads. Has some very clever twists and characters I really like.
Three levels of tech development going on.
