The best book I read in June was Fizz & Peppers at the Bottom of the World by some author called M.G.King, who seems to hang about here a lot. ;)

My review's out on Saturday (5 July) at and on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ soon after.

Lea Ann (buntingla) I was on fire in June and read Bayou Suzette,Anastasia: The Last Grand Duchess, Russia, 1914, and four books about Native Americans: Guests,Sing Down the Moon,Thunder Rolling in the Mountains,Children of the Longhouse

My favorite of that bunch was Thunder Rolling in the Mountains. I just thought it was the most interesting of the bunch. The story was very moving.

Carolien (carolien_s) House of Many Ways was great.

I also managed Things Fall Apart which is a classic in African literature and quite beautiful.

Jen Malone For MG last month I read THE SWAP by Megan Schull (loved it- very similar to Wendy Mass's book about boy and girl who swap bodies, but definitely worth the read!), RHYME SCHEMER by KA Holt (I don't read a lot of novels in verse and this one convinced me I should try more- really great story of bullying told from bully's perspective), LOOT by Jude Watson (awesome heist story!), THE ZOO AT THE END OF THE WORLD (had a very Life is Pi vibe to it and completely unique to anything else- I lived in those pages and blinked a lot when I came out of my book trance!) and I REPRESENT SEAN ROSEN by Jeff Baron (I participated in Kid Author Carnival at BEA with him and found his book every bit as funny as he is in real life). Overall, no duds in the mix, which was amazing!!! Hooray for summer reading time!!

Brenda | 48 comments My June was split between reading classics like The Westing Game and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Mouseheart by Lisa Fiedler and Sky Raiders by Brandon Mull. I really enjoyed the mystery of The Westing Game.

K.L. Pickett | 7 comments The Great Unexpected by Sharon Creech was a wonderful June read. She's one of my favorite authors. I also reread Into the Land of the Unicorns by Bruce Coville, and I finished The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey. As you can see, I love middle-grade, which is why I write for that age level.

message 9: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I love some of Creech; I'll have to look foThe Great Unexpected.

I was most impressed to discover an author I'd never heard of before - Kirkpatrick Hill; I enjoyed and recommend both Do Not Pass Go and The Year of Miss Agnes. They're short and smart and would be good for reluctant MG readers.

Bana (banagjokaj) The best book I read in June was The Great Unexpected no doubt.

Cheryl (cherylllr) (I think M.G. means we're to focus on Middle Grade books in this thread - if not I've got more nominations. :)

Jacci, how old do you think kids should be before they are offered Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children?

The Great Unexpected has a beautiful cover, too: The Great Unexpected by Sharon Creech .

Sherrie Petersen (sherriepetersen) | 22 comments I read Miss Peregrine to my kids when it came out (though I may have changed a few words). They were 9 and 12 at the time and they loved it.

Michael Coady (coady2y) | 27 comments I read 'I Am Alice' from Joseph Delaney's The Last apprentice series. I love the series but am surprised at how dark the books can get for Middle Grade. Maybe that's the norm these days.

Trying to sort out what I read in June. . . leaving aside the C. S. Lewis we all read (about which I have mixed feelings, though mostly still lots of love), the best MG book I read was Bravo Victor Bravo Victor (The Princelings of the East, #6) by Jemima Pett

Good fun adventure!
