Elizabeth (Alaska) Editions have the format in the title. In some, the word is appropriate in the title. Most won't show on the list of search results because the word is in parenthesis. This is probably a mindless sort of project, just to fill in those odd moments.

Paperback
Hardcover
audio

Katie (katesmash) | 22 comments I'm looking for a project to work on. Just want to make sure I'm doing this correctly as it's my first project.

Are you saying that, for example, "The Great Gatsby [Audio CD]", we should delete the "[Audio CD}" from the title?

Empress (the_empress) Katie that is correct. Format should be reflected in the format field and should be removed from the title field. And if you only feel comfortable removing the edition information that is fine. If you like to go a step further there are few more things you may find in title fields.

Any imprint information you stumble upon can go in edition field (in general if it refers to that edition only and not the work should go in edition field)

Example:

Title field: Example name (SF Masterworks) (Audio CD)

Should be edited as follows:

Title Field: Example name
Format Field: Audio CD
Edition Field: SF Masterworks, Unabridged

Also referrals to language such as (German edition) should be removed as well as the words "A Novel (or Roman)". For non fictions you may also see things like "12th revised edition". That should be moved to edition field.

Regarding "A Novel" this is the rule: The phrase "A Novel" is not considered a subtitle. The phrase "A Novel Of {Something}" or "A {Something} Novel", where {something} is the book's series, should be considered a series indicator rather than a subtitle, and so it should not be present in the title field except as part of the series (see below for series). If anything is not clear just post an example and someone will advise you. :)

Thank you, Katie. This is sort of a mindless project, but in the long run, I think you'll find you learn a lot about being a librarian doing this type of work. At first, you'll see just the (audio CD) to remove, and that is fine. As you do more, you will likely better see how things work and feel comfortable doing other things as well.

Whenever you see something that doesn't look quite right, feel free to open a thread in the Questions folder. Someone will be more than happy to answer.
