Nick and Nora are such a delightful couple that going through a mystery with them twice is a pleasure, not a burden. Make yourself a martini (or seven) and watch it today!"

I *adore* The Thin Man. I want to be Myrna Loy when I grow up. Since I've already read it, I would love to read My Man Godfrey, my other favorite William Powell movie.

Chrissy Busick (chrissycracksabook) | 23 comments So I just recently learned that one of my all time favorite movies was based on a book. I have nine books written down as possibilities. If I can get my hands on a copy my number one choice is going to be The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. I still love that movie today.

Desiree (mrs_organized_chaos) | 1 comments What Dreams May Come is one of my all time favorite movies. I found out it was a book and attempted to read it. I couldn’t get through the first few pages. I guess I will attempt it again and see what happens

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books (alittleteaandbooks) | 26 comments I'll probably read either Memoirs of a Geisha or Murder on the Orient Express since I already own both books. I haven't read them yet.

message 58: by Christy (new)

Christy | 358 comments I've decided to count TV shows so I can finally read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I'm very excited!

message 59: by poshpenny (new)

poshpenny | 1916 comments Just be aware the new TV version of Dirk is very little like the one in the book. I like them both though.

message 60: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) | 24 comments I’m considering Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead.

Yeah, I've heard that! A dear friend of mine couldn't get past the first 20 minutes of the show because it's set in Seattle and that's just NOT RIGHT. I'm generally very laid back about adaptations and differences between them, so I don't expect it to bother me, but it will be interesting.

message 62: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments Thank you to the person who suggested Michael Crichton!! I've only read his Jurassic Park but I love all the other movies based on his books. Thinking I'll go with one of those. Other suggestions I have that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

The Ruins
Relic
The 5th Wave

I mean, Douglas Adams is known for all his adaptations being different. No two versions of Hitchhiker are alike, so it's unsurprising that Dirk Gently is also very different

The Hobbit has been at the top of my TBR list for awhile, I think this is my year to read it!

message 67: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments I finally attended a James Ellroy movie night last night. He provided commentary on the film version of L.A. Confidential, so I've seen it twice now and still not read the book. Hard to believe I first saw that film 20 years ago! I think I tried reading the book back then but couldn't get into the rhythm of Ellroy's writing style. Maybe it would work better if I listened to it on audio?

message 68: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Gerrity (dawngerrity) | 2 comments I just saw the movie "Arrival" and found the book that the Novella is in: Stories of Your Life and Others

Krissy (krissystewart) | 79 comments I'll be going with:

Interview with the Vampire
Interview with the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Anne Rice

message 71: by Crumb (new)

Genesis Williamson | 3 comments I think I'm going to be reading
Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream

message 75: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 3 comments The Del Toro film won't even air where I am until February, but I'm putting down The Shape of Water as a likely choice for this one.

Evelyn Veitch (evvymore) I'm going to do the Count of Monte Cristo for this one.

Gabi (eeclayton) | 30 comments Evelyn wrote: "I'm going to do the Count of Monte Cristo for this one."
I read it this summer and loved it! But it's pretty long.

message 80: by Hillary (new)

Hillary Quick (hquick87) | 1 comments I’m going to do Jodi Picoult’s My Sisters Keeper. I saw the movie years ago when it was in theaters but didn’t realize it was a movie until it started. I’ve always wanted to go back and read it.

message 81: by Betty (new)

Betty Q I think I’m going with A Christmas Carol for this one. I really don’t watch very many movies, so this isn’t an easy one for me.

message 82: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I'm going with Big Fish, as a Tim Burton geek. Plus, it's a quick read which I could do with in amongst some of my other choices!

message 83: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (roses7184) It's been a long time since I've read Interview with the Vampire so I'll probably go with that! Relive the book, and then go watch the movie again!

message 84: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments I just thought about The Zookeeper's wife.. wanted to throw that in as a suggestion for those who like historical novels.

message 85: by Brianna (new)

Brianna Flores (disneywitch22) | 34 comments My list is a bit short cause that’s a huge thing for me to avoid watching a film before reading a book. Here’s my list

1. Spectacular Now
2. Silver Linings Playbook
3. The Help
4. Devil Wears Prade

A Christmas Carol
The Girl on the Train

Laura • lauralovestoread | 101 comments Finally getting to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone what took me so long??

message 90: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Query | 7 comments I'm thinking of reading Hidden Figures, but I haven't seen the movie. Is it cheating if I put the book on my list, make sure to watch the movie first, and then read the book later in the year? Not sure how I feel about it, so I'm seeking opinions from the group :-)

message 91: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments Nope, I’ve considered doing that myself!

Nah, I think that's fine if it's something you really want to read.

message 93: by Shelly (new)

Shelly | 123 comments I will read A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley. The movie is Lion .

message 94: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments I've changed my mind on this so many times.. but I think I've finally decided.. I'm going to read Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy

message 95: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 77 comments I think I might double dip this prompt with #33 (childhood classic you've never read). Usually, if there's a movie based on a book I want to read, I try to read the book first. I haven't completely made up my mind on this one though...

Matilda
Black Beauty
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Neverending Story

message 96: by Carla (new)

Carla (simplycarla) I will choose from:

The Davinci Code
Wonder
The Longest Ride

message 98: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Do you need to watch a film in order to read the book. I mean if I've seen a film already, can I just read the book or do I need to re-watch the film and then read the book?

Many thanks

I don't think a re-watch is required, you can just go ahead and read.
