Ian (iansreads) My pick was World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, and I loved it.

It was really interesting to see the ways in which the book differed from the movie. I think these choices played well to me for the movie since they made the two incredibly distinct.

Cyndy (cyndy-ksreader) | 133 comments I read Six Days of the Condor by James Grady. Great movie and great debut novel. In this version, Mr. Grady tells you how he came to sell the book and the movie and what he was paid for each. Personally, I wish I had read this after I read the book. No spoilers for me, since I had seen the movie first, I just would have rather known some of the information after I read the book.

Gemma | 1 comments I'm so glad this is number 1,because I happen to be reading The Cider house Rules by John Irving. I had seen the movie years ago (which I remember very little of) and just now decided to finally read the book. Highly recommend :)

Patricia | 49 comments For this challenge, I read Freaky Friday- I tried to pick a few short books starting out to get me going on the list. It was funny, although a lot different from the movie!

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments Totally thought I owned Jurassic Park but I've scoured my shelves today and can't find it anywhere. Back to the drawing board for me

message 260: by May (new)

May Mcvicker (maymcvicker) I read A Simple Favor which discussed I believe strangers on a train, in search for that book at the library I came across girl on the train and mistakenly picked it up thinking it was the book. This mistake sent me on the amazing journey that is Paula Hawkins. I actually enjoyed into the water more than girl on the train, and cant wait for whatever she releases next.
Moral of story, does this count as reading a book mentioned in another book LOL

Sarah (the library addict) whispers back, "I am at my book limit right now" lol!
I don't want to read it enough to return another book unread but it would've ticked off a prompt for each of the different challenges I'm doing. I'm sure I'll find something else though.

At "my" library we have no limit... When people ask I generally answer "as many as you can carry and bring back on time". We have a limit on how many times you can renew, though. And we also have quite a strict number of library e-books you can have checked out at once.

In my childhood there was an awful period (for about a year or two I think) where you could only take out 8 books/items at a time. I was an avid reader and didn´t live that close to my library, plus I read a lot of comics, so this was a nightmare. The library staff saved my life: They would let me borrow 8, go back in the queue and borrow 8 more and so on till I had borrowed them all... (this was the 80´s before the public libraries registered loans on computer systems). Really nice people who understood my struggle (and probably recognised me as a regular).

This book has been on my shelf for ages but I haven't ever seen the movie either. Is it good for 6 and 8 year old girls? I should probably stop being lazy and look up the trailer but you love it so I'll ask you instead :-)

message 274: by Julie (new)

Julie | 43 comments This year I read:
Practical Magic
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The 100 (by series, but kind of counts)

All much after seeing the movies or show.

message 275: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha (ellornaslibrary) Ended up using The Little Prince for this one since I probably won't get to my original choice, The Lovely Bones, before the end of this year. If you've not seen the Netflix movie for The Little Prince? I watched it last year. I highly recommend it. It's beautiful, the soundtrack is wonderful, and it made me want to read the book even more.
