Sara I don't know about you, but I love using a spreadsheet to track my reading. Mine is pretty simple, but I will share a link to my shareable spreadsheet. Feel free to post your own variations.

This is great! If you don't mind, I'm going to try and make my own version in Excel.

Lin (gramatumaja) | 43 comments Thank you! I have made my own spreadsheet for 2017. It's great to see how others do it. The columns I use for the schallanges and in the rows I write the books I read. I mark with a star which challange each book has met.

Thanks Sana. I loved your list as it is too simple :) I am going to copy that and add my 2017 challenge too :)

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauramarkey) | 2 comments I like to load up on a ton of challenges then find books I own that will tick off a bunch at once. Scratches a productivity itch, I think! I tried to do a spreadsheet, but I wanted an easy way to see what books would count for multiple categories I still needed and a way to track suggestions and possibilities along with my completed books. I spent an embarrassing amount of time thinking about how to best organize this info this year. I finally landed on an Airtable database. --it's probably overkill, but that's okay because I love it! :)

message 15: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicaseitz) | 0 comments Thank you for sharing your lists! 2018 will be my first reading challenge (short of setting a book # goal in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ).

Question - how have you found the best way to search for books to fit the challenge criteria?

Thanks!

message 16: by Sara (new)

Sara Jessica wrote: "Question - how have you found the best way to search for books to fit the challenge criteria?"

There are lots of ways. The best is probably to go to the individual discussion threads in this group for each of the prompts. TONS of suggestions are being given there! This is the link for the "regular" 40 prompts (there is also a folder for the advanced 10). /topic/group...

You can also search the lists feature in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for ideas.

And lastly, you can google most of them. As the new challenge list gains in popularity you'll find many of the prompts as auto-fill options when you start typing.

Heather (heathergrace) | 94 comments I started using a spreadsheet earlier this year, mostly to keep track of prompt ideas, but I also really like having a piece of paper that gets gradually beaten up over the course of a year and that I can pull out to ask people for suggestions! So if anyone was like me and hated the design of the PDF for 2018 (two separate pages?! no room to write in the books?!?!) I wasted time at work today! Let me know if this works...

For many prompts, I just type the key word into search in Overdrive. That won’t work for all of them, but many. Has the added bonus that I’m pulling up books that I know I have access to. Then I add a bunch for the prompt into my wish list so they are there in a clump to choose from later.

message 25: by Debbie (last edited Nov 11, 2017 10:55AM) (new)

Debbie Phillips (debbie_phillips) Here are the pages I created. One is black and white with lines. One color background with lines.

I print 2 sets. One set I use for book suggestions that might read so I have it with me when I am at the library and one I print for my final list as I finish reading that prompt. I keep other records of all the books, not all fit this challenge, I read in a different way so I just like a simple list for this. I hope these help someone out.

Color Background

Black and White in case you want to save ink

Theresa | 2351 comments I like this one created by Bonnie for a group that became subsumed into this one. It has all the past and present lists as well - 2015, 2016, 2017 - in one location. I only discovered Pop Sugar Reading Challenge in 2016; only now am I filling in 2015 with books not fitting 2017 prompts. 2018 has already been added.

message 35: by Quand (new)

Quand C | 5 comments I would love to create a list on my iPad, since that's where I do most of my reading. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best app to use to create a list to track my reading? Suggestions other than Google docs please! Thanks!!

message 36: by Christine (new)

Christine H | 496 comments I've frittered away so much time messing around with my ! I took some lessons learned from 2017:

- I need a list of possibilities, as well as a place to record the book I choose to actually read
- I like having conditionally formatted columns that help me track if I've shared in the weekly thread - put an x in the cell, and it fills with color
- I want to front-load some of the more challenging books so I added a "reading order" column

Olivia (elven) | 26 comments I'm sure it's all about style but a friend made one for our group for the 2017 challenge and I liked its layout so I made one just like it for 2018. It's based in Word/Pages, instead of Excel.

Every I say to myself I will do a proper reading challenge (as in not just in numbers but following themes) and every year I get lost on said challenges because I suck at keep tracking. This will so helpful! Saving to my Google Docs account right now, that way I'm sure I won't have the excuse of losing yet another list on my files because i can save it on the cloud and use on my mobile. Thanks for the spreadsheet.

That's very helpful, thank you! I've been writing them down on a print out, but I'm prone to losing things in piles of paper, so I'm going to try this.

I love this idea, but I don't know if I would be very good at keeping up with it. I, like you, have a horrible memory of what I've read (I've gotten halfway through books before & then realized that I've read them, but still finished them because I didn't remember exactly what happened), but I have a hard time even updating my spreadsheet every time I finish a book. This year, I would sometimes update three or four books at once, because I hadn't updated lately, and I think it still shows that I have a few books left to read, even though I finished a couple months ago. I do like this idea, though, so maybe I can find a way to work it in. Thanks for sharing!

My horrible memory is the EXACT reason I started listing all the books I finish reading on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ!

Last year I typed up all the prompts in "outline format" and I typed up, underneath them and indented, the books I'd read. If I wasn't yet sure which prompt I was going to use the book for, I'd list the book under all the possible prompts, and all the possible books under each prompt. Then when I saw which prompts were filled, I'd finalize them. I also highlighted the "not yet finalized" prompts so I could easily see which ones were still pending, and the completely unfulfilled prompts were highlighted in a different color, to make it easier to see what I still had left. I have it saved as an ODT file and I'm not sure how to share it.

I also typed up all the prompts into a simple text file, because my phone can't handle the fancier files. I put a symbol next to the ones that I'd completed. This year I might make two files; one with the full list of prompts, and one where I delete the ones that are satisfied, to make it quicker and easier to check while I'm in the library.

I also had a list printed out that I could view on Shabbos, but my handwriting is horrible and I didn't do well writing in my books on it. Besides, I sometimes made changes to which books went to which prompt, so paper just didn't work well. I do better updating the lists on the computer and having the printed list just be a reference.
