This is great! If you don't mind, I'm going to try and make my own version in Excel.

Sure! I think you should be able to copy it? If not, let me know and I can try and send you a template.

It is set for read only so I can't copy it.

You are my people!!! I added this as a tab on my spreadsheet that tracks all things reading.

Thanks Sana. I loved your list as it is too simple :) I am going to copy that and add my 2017 challenge too :)

Question - how have you found the best way to search for books to fit the challenge criteria?
Thanks!

There are lots of ways. The best is probably to go to the individual discussion threads in this group for each of the prompts. TONS of suggestions are being given there! This is the link for the "regular" 40 prompts (there is also a folder for the advanced 10). /topic/group...
You can also search the lists feature in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for ideas.
And lastly, you can google most of them. As the new challenge list gains in popularity you'll find many of the prompts as auto-fill options when you start typing.

Where is the individual discussion thread?!! :)

Here for the 40 "regular" prompts: /topic/group...
Here for the 10 "advanced" prompts: /topic/group...

That database is an absolute delight! I am going to NOT copy it and make one for myself because I would spend the entire rest of the year playing with it. I'm not, I swear I'm not.

For many prompts, I just type the key word into search in Overdrive. That won’t work for all of them, but many. Has the added bonus that I’m pulling up books that I know I have access to. Then I add a bunch for the prompt into my wish list so they are there in a clump to choose from later.

I print 2 sets. One set I use for book suggestions that might read so I have it with me when I am at the library and one I print for my final list as I finish reading that prompt. I keep other records of all the books, not all fit this challenge, I read in a different way so I just like a simple list for this. I hope these help someone out.

Hi Vernice, This is so cool.

This was from this year's prompts that I changed for 2018's prompts. It has 3 option tabs, which I will pencil in after I print it out.

- I need a list of possibilities, as well as a place to record the book I choose to actually read
- I like having conditionally formatted columns that help me track if I've shared in the weekly thread - put an x in the cell, and it fills with color
- I want to front-load some of the more challenging books so I added a "reading order" column

So I love this, and would love to use it if you don't mind. However, I'm unsure how to copy documents from google docs without changing the original.

Every I say to myself I will do a proper reading challenge (as in not just in numbers but following themes) and every year I get lost on said challenges because I suck at keep tracking. This will so helpful! Saving to my Google Docs account right now, that way I'm sure I won't have the excuse of losing yet another list on my files because i can save it on the cloud and use on my mobile. Thanks for the spreadsheet.

That's very helpful, thank you! I've been writing them down on a print out, but I'm prone to losing things in piles of paper, so I'm going to try this.

I love this idea, but I don't know if I would be very good at keeping up with it. I, like you, have a horrible memory of what I've read (I've gotten halfway through books before & then realized that I've read them, but still finished them because I didn't remember exactly what happened), but I have a hard time even updating my spreadsheet every time I finish a book. This year, I would sometimes update three or four books at once, because I hadn't updated lately, and I think it still shows that I have a few books left to read, even though I finished a couple months ago. I do like this idea, though, so maybe I can find a way to work it in. Thanks for sharing!

this is honestly the best spreadsheet, i swear it gave peace to my soul. (sorry for overreacting here)

My horrible memory is the EXACT reason I started listing all the books I finish reading on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ!
Last year I typed up all the prompts in "outline format" and I typed up, underneath them and indented, the books I'd read. If I wasn't yet sure which prompt I was going to use the book for, I'd list the book under all the possible prompts, and all the possible books under each prompt. Then when I saw which prompts were filled, I'd finalize them. I also highlighted the "not yet finalized" prompts so I could easily see which ones were still pending, and the completely unfulfilled prompts were highlighted in a different color, to make it easier to see what I still had left. I have it saved as an ODT file and I'm not sure how to share it.
I also typed up all the prompts into a simple text file, because my phone can't handle the fancier files. I put a symbol next to the ones that I'd completed. This year I might make two files; one with the full list of prompts, and one where I delete the ones that are satisfied, to make it quicker and easier to check while I'm in the library.
I also had a list printed out that I could view on Shabbos, but my handwriting is horrible and I didn't do well writing in my books on it. Besides, I sometimes made changes to which books went to which prompt, so paper just didn't work well. I do better updating the lists on the computer and having the printed list just be a reference.

Thanks Heather - I used your sheet. I like paper too!

Thank you Sara! My accountant husband is going to be very excited you provided us readers with an Excel spreadsheet lol.
