Stephanie | 26 comments All three books in the Catherine M. Wilson's "When Women Were Warriors" trilogy would fit this prompt.

message 52: by Jess (new)

Jess (theanswerisno) You can knock out this and the fruit in the title prompt with "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit."

message 53: by Elli (new)

Elli | 1 comments More Than This a gay male protagonist (but sexuality isn't like a centric part of the story)
The Art of Being Normal a story about a trans girl's experience (I think?)
Middlesex intersex protagonist (an amazing book! read it read it!!)
George middlegrade trans story

message 54: by Trina (new)

Trina Dubya (trina_dubya) The title character in The Mermaid's Daughter by Ann Claycomb is a lesbian. I read it this year and loved it. I also adored Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which someone recommended earlier in this discussion.

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Poshpenny yes I will be ❤️

message 61: by Anna (new)

Anna (annaholla) I'm considering going nonfiction with Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family.

message 62: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenlibrarian00) | 12 comments In the YA/teen genre, In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan works for this prompt (gay and bisexual characters).

message 63: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments Lindi wrote: "I've had The Song of Achilles recommended to me more than once, so I think I'm going to read that."

I really enjoyed that one, and I'm not normally into Greek mythology.

message 64: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments Here are a few ideas:
Planetfall
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
Light
Vermilion
Afterparty
Maplecroft
Promises, Promises

I'm not sure what I'll read for this prompt. Maybe In Memoriam.

message 65: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments What about Tash Hearts Tolstoy? The protagonist, according to the synopsis at least, is asexual.

message 66: by Letizia (new)

Letizia Loi | 42 comments If you want to read something short and you like sci-fi, The Cybernetic Tea Shop is really nice.

I think I'm going to read Tipping the Velvet for this one.

message 67: by Cornerofmadness (last edited Nov 11, 2017 06:39PM) (new)

Cornerofmadness | 783 comments Kept Tears or Soldiers of the Sun or anything else by Jana Denardo, Kim Fielding, Jamie Fessenden, Sarah Madison, Grace R. Duncan, Shira Anthony, J Scott Coatsworth, Andrea Speed, and Bye-Bye Birdie

And many of these authors always have works that would fit the SF prompts (and probably several others).

message 68: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Yelton | 13 comments I highly recommend Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. It was one of my favorite books I read this year!

message 69: by Trina (new)

Trina Gloury (mactrin) | 76 comments I've heard a lot of good things about Autoboyography by Christina Lauren and have enjoyed some of their other work so going to go with this one!

message 70: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Thank you all. I was having so much trouble picking a title for this prompt. I’m going to read Lily and the Octopus as it has been on my to read shelf for ever.

message 71: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Tack | 31 comments Some Assembly Required: The Not-So-Secret Life of a Transgender Teen was an enjoyable read! A young person's journey of self-awareness and transitioning.

Rethinking Normal: A Memoir in Transition is a similar story (written by an ex of the first author).

message 72: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 21 comments I second Hero by Perry Moore!

message 73: by Rachael (new)

That's my backup plan, if What You Want to See isn't published in time for me to read it.

Hadn't heard of that series, think I'll go for that instead. I have watched Carol and wasn't entirely sure I would enjoy reading it (don't get me wrong, I thought it was a great story, just not my usual reading genre)

For anyone who wants a link, the prequel to the book Nadine suggested is The Last Place You Look

message 76: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Two-Spirit People: Native American Gender Identity, Sexuality, and Spirituality

I may read this because I'm trying to really diversify my reading this year!

message 77: by Isabell (new)

Isabell | 27 comments I recently watched a film called the Danish girl and found there is a book as well. Could fit for the real person prompt or the one about a movie I saw too. I'll possibly fit it in somewhere on my list.

I believe that protagonist means the character has to fill one of those descriptions

message 84: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Jerris | 42 comments The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!!!!!!

Saints for All Occasions!

message 85: by Chrissy (last edited Nov 26, 2017 11:28AM) (new)

Chrissy Busick (chrissycracksabook) | 23 comments I have read about half of The Sunlight Pilgrims by Jenni Fagan this year. So far I am really loving it, but it may have to go back on the shelf so that I can use it for this prompt.

message 86: by Tara (new)

Tara (tjgpages) | 3 comments I'm reading Why We Came to the City right now and one of its main protagonists is bi, and another is gay. I'm liking it so far, particularly recommended for those of you who like novels set in NYC.

message 87: by Jess (last edited Nov 27, 2017 04:01AM) (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments Has anyone read Eileen? Is the protagonist bisexual? I read the blurb and it says something about being enchanted by a female colleague but I don't know if those feelings are sexual/romantic or more in an admiration/jealousy sense.

I don't really know much about this book other than that it's had a lot of buzz and it's got an unlikeable protagonist (which I enjoy).

Even so I don't know if it's in the spirit of this prompt to read an unfavourable portrayal of an LGBT person so I might go with Middlesex which is also on my TBR.

message 88: by Olivia (new)

Olivia (elven) | 26 comments Mark A Roeder has a whole series called "The Gay Youth Chronicles".

I read You Know Me Well this year and loved it, the protag is gay and his best friend lesbian.

Steve Kluger is a great choice if you like books in letter/memo format, and he often includes something about sports.

I like R.J. Scott's books quite a bit, they usually have to do with farm or cowboy settings.

American Love Songs was a fave.

Rainbow Boys is the first in a trilogy about gay boys.

A Red-Tainted Silence has been one of my faves for a long time but it's only out in ebook.

message 89: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments Too Like the Lightning
The Wrong Stars
The Stars Are Legion
Six of Crows
Mask of Shadows

The Immortalists is due out in early 2018 and features a gay character

also: I think pretty much all of the Anita Blake series feature gay characters.

message 91: by Emanuel (new)

Emanuel | 253 comments I'm thinking on Orlando. What do you think about that?

message 92: by Denise (new)

Denise Ekk (dennilaine_reads) | 16 comments the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo... one of my absolutely favorite books.

message 93: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments Would The Rules of Attraction work - I see it says "love triangle" in the blurb?

message 94: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismd) | 13 comments Some that I have read and really like

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
The Night Watch
She's Not There: A Life in Two Genders
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Also, Laurie R. King's Kate Martinelli detective stories.

I just read an interesting review of The Tattered Heiress, which features a pair of Victorian lesbian detectives. I may try that.

That sounds neat! I added it to my list!

message 96: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader Recently I finished a book that fits this category, also the time travel ( arguably, it is complicated ) and is by an Australian author for anyone trying to fill that category. Ida by Alison Evans

message 97: by Anna (new)

message 98: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (catielane) | 60 comments Julie Anne Peters is one of my all time favorites for this category. I’ve not got around to reading all her stuff yet so her book Luna is my pick for this one. Her stuff is YA so if you like it, I’d definitely give her a go. Keeping You a Secret is super good as well as Between Mom and Jo, both very emotional.

message 99: by Becky (new)

Becky Rice (beckyrice) The Argonauts is a really great read!
