Sara Personally I'm hoping the next book in the Outlander series will be released in 2018. All the books in that series would work though!

message 2: by Heather (new)

Heather | 69 comments I would suggest folks check out Kindred if you haven't read it. I might read the new graphic novel for this.

This might be challenging for me - I went through a "Time Travel Yay!" reading phase a year or two ago, and now I'm kind of time-travelled-out. I'm sure I can find something ...

Theresa | 2335 comments This was one of my prompt suggestions [ducks for cover]. Least I can do is make suggestions! There is more than just the Outlander series...
The Map of Time - this book is actually the one that suggested the prompt to me as it sits in my TBR pile!
Time and Again - a classic and one of the best in the genre. In fact any Jack Finney qualify.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
The Time Machine
Somewhere In Time - movie version was Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve.
Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict
The Time Traveler's Wife

message 5: by Lindi (last edited Nov 02, 2017 09:46AM) (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) Probably the prompt I'm most excited for. I LOVE time travel.

I recently read The Time Machine, which if you're not a fan of sci-fi, was a nice quick read that you can tick off in a day.

I can't recommend The Time Traveler's Wife enough. One of my favorite books of all time.

And I just recently finished The Jane Austen Project which I really enjoyed. A doctor and actor go back in time to befriend Jane Austen and her favorite brother Henry to save a manuscript that Jane destroyed before it could be published. It was a fun read if you're into that sort of thing.

message 6: by Malaraa (new)

Malaraa Time Salvager was awesome! :)

Kenya Starflight | 967 comments The Seeds of Time by Kay Kenyon

message 10: by Christine (new)

Christine H | 496 comments Invictus sounds gloriously preposterous.
To Say Nothing of the Dog doesn't feel sci-fi at all. Comedic goings on in a British neighborhood, based on Three Men in a Boat. Very light and fun.

message 11: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 2335 comments The Eyre Affair and its sequels qualify too.

Slaughterhouse-Five

I was just going to suggest this one :)

If you like YA, I highly recommend the Gem trilogy by German author Kerstin Gier:

Rubinrot/Ruby Red
Saphirblau/Sapphire Blue
³§³¾²¹°ù²¹²µ»å²µ°ùü²Ô/Emerald Green

They are funny, romantic, exciting, well-written and nicely plotted.

I was just looking at these for the color prompt, but thinking red's really not my favorite so I'd have to get to book to 2 to count it. Maybe I read book 1 for the time travel prompt and book 2 for the favorite color prompt...and then book 3 for the next book in a series you already started:)

message 14: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Sterling | 153 comments Timebound (The Chronos Files #1) by Rysa Walker
Split Second by Douglas E. Richards
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two by John Tiffany
11/22/63 by Stephen King
Timeline by Michael Crichton
Doomsday Book (Oxford Time Travel #1) by Connie Willis
The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley

message 16: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 27 comments I'm probably going to pick up the next book in Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's for this one if I can remember how far I've gotten.

If anyone's looking for a recent YA book I'd recommend Invictus by Ryan Graudin. I read it a few weeks ago and loved it. Kind of like Firefly with time travel.

message 17: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette (bridgettem) If you like romance...
Passenger and Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken (YA)
A Knight in Shining Armor
The Hourglass Door (YA)
Shadow of Night (Book 2 of the All Souls trilogy)
The seven books in Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series (Scottish time travel romance)
Timebound (YA)

If romance isn’t your thing...
Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis
Timeline
Slaughterhouse-Five
The Time Machine

I have never read anything by Connie Willis, and these are on my shortlist for this category - which of these two books should I read first? GR implies that it is a series?

I liked the graphic novel.

Thegirlintheafternoon Highly, HIGHLY recommend Sherman Alexie's Flight - incredibly moving! And the audiobook performance, by Adam Beach, is stunning.

It is a series and Doomsday Book is the first in the series. You don’t have read them in order, though, I think.

message 24: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments I think I may reread Outlander. In the past, I’ve held myself to not counting rereads for challenges unless the prompt called for it. However, there’s a few series books that I’d like to reread because it’s been so long since I’ve read them and I want to read the next in the series. Outlander is one of those. It’s been 15 or so years since I read it.

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments It's looking like I won't finish Time Travel: A History this year, so that works.

message 26: by Echo (new)

Echo | 4 comments One of my favorite books from the last few years was Version Control
Also Dark Matter

message 27: by Ashly (last edited Nov 05, 2017 01:30PM) (new)

Ashly (ashlyh) Extra Life by Derek Nikitas was really good.

I'm going to read Cold Summer by Gwen Cole

That sounds like a really good plan^^

message 30: by poshpenny (last edited Nov 07, 2017 11:29AM) (new)

poshpenny | 1916 comments I would have liked Just One Damned Thing After Another just fine if I didn't spend most of the book annoyed that yet another set of characters was obviously going to hook up. I'm super tired of that in general but I guess when I read this it bugged me even more than usual.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
A Christmas Carol

If you'd like some non-fiction there is Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality

Harshmi wrote: "I've heard good things about Paradox Bound"

It was fun, but one character will correct you to "history travel."

message 31: by Sandra (last edited Nov 07, 2017 07:53AM) (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 128 comments For those who like YA, I recommend the Tempest trilogy!

message 32: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 65 comments Dark Matter isn't a time travel book, he travels across alternate realities but not through time.

message 35: by Arielle (new)

Arielle (mrs_lioness) | 26 comments I'm thinking of re-read A Wrinkle in Time. I read it as a child and loved it and want to refresh my memory before seeing the moving next year. However, I don't know if it is technically time travel, since it is inter dimensional?

message 36: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9531 comments Mod
Yeah even though it's called a "wrinkle in time" and that's how the witches describe their travel, they seem to travel through space, not time. I would not class it as a "time travel" book, but I also can't say it's not a valid choice. It's sort of thinking outside the box a bit!

Right? It's a little tricky. I may just put it down for my "Local Author" choice and try to find an actual time travel book, or I may not ;) decisions, decisions.

message 38: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments I think it might better fit the other planet task, but it’s an interesting choice. After all, if you can save decades or longer of interplanetary travel and get there in seconds, it’s sort of like future time travel, isn’t it? Interesting way of looking at it.

I don't think it matters - you kind of jump in and learn from context about the rules and history of time travel in either. The most important consideration is do you want a horrifying trip into despair (Doomsday) or a light-hearted comedy adventure (To Say Nothing).

message 40: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments I read To Say Nothing of the Dog first and it worked out fine. Just be prepared for the extreme change of tone when you read the second book.

If you find yourself reading Blackout/All Clear at some point, bear in mind that they're really just one huge book. You have to read both volumes to get any real resolution.

I'm stoked because I saw her the other night, and she's actually thinking of writing another time travel book! She's been saying for a long time that she was done with that series.

message 41: by Amanda (last edited Nov 13, 2017 04:52AM) (new)

Amanda Eckler | 31 comments I was very happy to see that Brian Selznick's Wonderstruck can check the "time travel" box in 2018, as I loved The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

message 47: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debzanne) | 165 comments Someone in my book club finished reading The Jane Austen Project recently, and really liked it, so I think I'll probably go for that.

A few others in my book lists:
- Time Between Us and Time After Time - sweet YA time travel romance
- Doomsday Book - I second the recommendation; time travel with some serious consequences.
- Ruby Red is in my classroom library and would suffice pretty well.
- Must Love Breeches - If you're looking for a softcore time travel romance that also teaches you about a real historical figure (Ada Lovelace), this is your book. I think the author has written other time travel romances, too.

message 48: by Trina (new)

Trina Gloury (mactrin) | 76 comments Going to go with one that's been on my TBR for far too long now, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

I actually started this series with Blackout/All Clear and have no regrets, and I'll be reading To Say Nothing of the Dog for this challenge.

message 50: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (mermaidnerdliz) | 18 comments I definitely recommend the Miss Peregrine Series by Ransom Riggs. They do travel through time and I enjoyed all three books.
