E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ have just announced you will need to pay $119 or $599 to set up a Giveaway from 9 Jan next year.

And you will only be able to do so if you are in the US.

There is a link at the end of the post which asks you to take a survey to express your opinion.

You might like to do so.

Kady Monroe | 39 comments I've already done the survey. These new packages put me out of the game for giveaways. UK resident.

Eric Johannsen (ericjohannsen) | 16 comments If they were concerned about what people say in the survey, they would have conducted it before announcing the new feature. Given the timing, they will more likely use the results to manage the fallout.

Stjepan Cobets | 341 comments I personally think that with this new giveaway method do injustice to all the other authors who are not from the US. Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ just breaking the only way to promote our books. Not to mention, the amount you have to pay for a giveaway. I mean, that's not right.

Stjepan Cobets | 341 comments Unfortunately, this only benefits those who have publishers and are already selling their books in large numbers. For an indie author, this is just a bigger aggravating circumstance. Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is obviously intended to make as much money as possible and only focuses on the US market.

Lyra Adams (lyraadamsauthor) | 3 comments Before I spend that amount on giving books away, I will spend the same amount on actual physical books and give them away on a street corner. I think they made an unwise move.

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 946 comments What does it cost to do a giveaway on Amazon?
Can one do this outside the U.S.?

Jonathan Gravenor | 1 comments Yes the USA only is upsetting, but also another cost to the already costly game of self-publishing.
May I ask some advice?
1) does the book giveaway actually help a) get reviews b) get seen?
2) are there any good articles on other effective ways of getting reviewed (yes I have googled and read several - that didn't work)
3) I signed up with kindle and wanted to be able to do giveaways or have coupon codes to offer followers for cheaper prices, but I can't find anything other than the 5 days of free or cheaper (for all) per 90 days. Anything I am missing here?

Nick van der Leek | 2 comments Is the giveaway now worldwide? I'm not sure I understand it - if you give 10 books or 100 does it still cost $119, or is each giveaway extra over. If so that's ridiculous.

Stjepan Cobets | 341 comments One thing is for sure, now they have a lot fewer books on the giveaway.

Franca (francaogbonnaya) | 206 comments I did the giveaway of a hundred books and only got two reviews. That was in March this year . I cannot say the giveaway is effective in getting reviews.

I agree, similar thing happened to me, only a couple of reviews. Definitely not worth doing a giveaway now since it's so expensive.

Nat Kennedy | 31 comments I did a giveaway back in the day and didn't get much traffic, and I don't think the person I gave it away to actually reviewed it. And that was years ago. It wasn't worth it free, I don't feel like it's worth it paid.

This is a really really weird move. I wondered why there were fewer giveaways. Now I know.

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Yeah, giving away free books doesn't usually result in reviews unless the person is someone who reviews anyway. I did some of my amazon giveaway days and got a few nice ratings from it, but no reviews. Which you know, isn't entirely a bad thing for exposure when you're trying to get your name out there if it's a free thing, but $119 is just too high for what you get.

Franca (francaogbonnaya) | 206 comments I did a giveaway on goodreads and hardly got reviews or ratings . Don’t waste your money on this. Use the money towards adds or marketing.
