Any time (or, once every month or so... )!

message 4: by LindaJ^ (new)

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments I nominate Once Upon a River by Bonnie Jo Campbell, published in July 2011. Campbell writes what I call "rural gothic." I read this in 2011 and will willingly read it again if chosen. Campbell is one of my favorite authors.

Maggie, This looks like a great read and a good fit for this group, but was published too recently (in order to add broader access to books and give a little time for the hype to die down on new publications, we recently changed the guidelines so we're not choosing anything published within the last year--see above). We'd love to consider a different nomination from you.

PS I'd like to nominate Dust by Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor

Carol (carolfromnc) | 458 comments Marc wrote: "Carol, Got another nomination for us?"

Yes, thanks!

I nominate Man Tiger by Eka Kurniawan. English-language version first published September 15th 2015. (original, first published 2004).

This NYTimes review discusses both Man Tiger and Kurniawan's earlier novel, Beauty is a Wound. At 172 pages, Man Tiger is considerably more focused and I thought its brevity makes it a better choice for a group read.

message 18: by Clarke (new)

Clarke Owens | 165 comments I nominate In the Cafe of Lost Youth by Patrick Modiano. I don't know how to do the link.

Just click the add book/author above the comment box. Normally typing the name of the book gets you there, but if there are too many irrelevant results, adding the author's surname helps. This probably doesn't work in the app though.

I'll do this one for you:
In the Café of Lost Youth by Patrick Modiano

I can, if you like. It's February, right? Do I lead with a question, in the manner of the English teacher?

Marc (monkeelino) | 3421 comments Mod
Yes, discussion would start Feb. 1st. Take a glance at some other discussions--some start with questions, some don't. It's really up to you and what you think might work best for this book. One of the group moderators will set up a discussion folder a day or two before the 1st and then you can start the thread(s). Feel free to direct message me if you have more questions or want to chat.
