Hi Jaxnsmom, I grew up in Fairfax but live now outside of Timberville, a tiny town about 20 miles north of Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley. Where did you live in Virginia?

I've heard of Timberville. I grew up in Lynchburg, went to college in Danville, and lived in Falls Church and Fairfax County for over 15 years, and then in Winchester before moving to Charleston.

Chris Hi!! Not new to the group but just wanted to say hi to all the new members. This is a great group that has introduced a lot of good authors to us through the monthly reads and the buddy reads!!

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane (muffybf) | 7 comments New to the group. I live in Marblehead, retired and a grandma(Meme). I love the beach, poodles and the Red Sox and the Patriots.
I read mostly cozies now but I may deviate to mainstream mysteries.
My last book that I finished last night was Miss Julia Inherits a Mess.

Toy Poodle named Carriefisher. she is 11 months old and sometimes "naughty" with her potty training.
Thank you for welcoming me to the group and hope that I can participate often.

Thank you for welcoming me to the group. We have a 10 month old Toy. Her name is Carriefisher. I was very sick last year and I was a little down. Hubby bought me a "therapy dog".

Vicki Cook | 3 comments Hello, I have always loved to read (one of the greatest gifts my parents bestowed on me was a love for books) but it's only recently I've started reading cozy mysteries.
I especially love any that feature cats. I have two cats of my own....Jillybean my senior black cat and Astaire my tuxedo cat who is almost a year old.
Both my daughters, who are grown now, have also always loved to read.
I live in sunny Florida but am originally from Cincinnati.

Welcome to the group Vicki. Which cat themed cozies have you enjoyed?

message 20: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Cook | 3 comments Nell wrote: "Welcome to the group Vicki. Which cat themed cozies have you enjoyed?" My most recent read with cats was Prose and Cons by Amanda Flower. Has a cat, a crow (who quotes Poe) and takes place in a bookshop with a magic tree. What's not to love? Currently reading The Scottie Barked At Midnight which does have two cats in it but the main focus is on two dancing Scottie dogs.

message 21: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) | 72 comments Welcome Vicki! I love cats too and I've always wanted to visit Florida.

message 22: by Sabetha (new)

Sabetha (aconitecafe) Hey all. I live in Central Texas, and run a book, coffee, tea themed website, blog. I call Cozy Mysteries my guilty pleasure read, they are my go to when I get to pick a book to read. Usually i'm reading arcs, and books for my site. Looking forward to playing in this group!

Welcome to the group Sabetha. There's a folder on the group page for Authors and Bloggers. Feel free to tell us about your blog there. Coffee, tea and cozies - I can relate to that. And there are coffee and tea-themed cozies. Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse mystery series and Laura Child's tea shop mysteries are two series that come to mind.

On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) by Cleo Coyle Death by Darjeeling (A Tea Shop Mystery, #1) by Laura Childs

Vicki Cook | 3 comments Ashley wrote: "Welcome Vicki! I love cats too and I've always wanted to visit Florida." Florida is quite different from the Ohio I grew up in. I live about 45 minutes from Walt Disney World. My eldest daughter used to be a Disney Princess (Ariel and Belle) there. I don't go but once every several years as it's so expensive but Disney Springs (with a bunch of shops and entertainment is free so I can get some Disney magic there lol.

Maggie | 1 comments Good morning!

I'm here in CA, and I look forward to finding new cozies. =) I like to read about new places and experiences. It get rough finding books that are well-written enough to justify the purchase, so I like to read reviews and have helpful suggestions.

message 29: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1 comments Hello all! I'm new here also. I grew up mostly in Virginia (near Fairfax also - in Springfield), but now live outside Chicago. I recently found cozies and have been devouring them! I'm partial to stories with cats, of course, but enjoy plenty of others as well.

I'm looking forward to finding new ones!

HI, Ashley. Welcome. I, too, live outside Chicago. In my case I'm half-way across the state just south of the stateline with Wisconsin. Are you still in the burbs or beyond?

Welcome Ashley and Brandi.

Ashley- Have you discovered Krista Davis' cozy mysteries. She has two series - Domestic Diva is set in DC and Paw and Claws set in the Virginia mountains. There are pets in both but (as the series title suggests) Paws and Claws is animal-themed.

Brandi - We have two "What are you reading" discussions - one for cozies, the other for everything else. You can share what you've read and find new-to-you books to read.

message 34: by R (new)

R Hello! I love cozy mysteries. I started with MC Beaton's Hamish MacBeth, Nancy Atherton and now I'm almost finished with Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who series. It's also fun to watch the mysteries that show up on tv now and then, though reading is more fun. I live in Virginia out in the country. Any suggestions to begin a new series? Here's to a cuppa and a cozy mystery :-)

Welcome to the group Rynnie. You might like the Paw and Claws series by Krista Davis. It's set in a tourist town in the Virginia mountains. She also has a series set in DC - Domestic Diva. First in the Paws and Claws series is Murder, She Barked.

Murder, She Barked (Paws and Claws Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis

R Thanks so much, Nell! I will try them out. Thanks for telling me the first in the series too. The Paws & Claws sounds fun. I'll read up on Domestic Diva too. I appreciate you taking time to reply.

message 40: by L J (new)

L J | 714 comments I seem to be on a cozy mystery reading streak at the moment though that is not all I read. Just started listening to Brownies and Broomsticks I have been using Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for 3 or 4 years but haven't been very active in groups. In addition to cozy mystery I read paranormal, science fiction, police procedural, romance that fits in these genres, romantic suspense and random fiction and nonfiction that just strike my fancy at the moment. I read ebook, audio, hardback and paperback.

Welcome L J! It sounds like you enjoy a good variety of books. We're so lucky to have so many genres and formats available.

message 42: by L J (new)

L J | 714 comments Thanks for the welcome jaxnsmom. I agree we are all lucky to have so much available. I'm lucky enough to have access to books from 2 library systems. My house is over flowing with books from when I worked in a bookstore so I don't need more but there's always that new book by a favorite author or next in a series or new author I want to try.

Welcome to the group L J. I enjoy the Magical Bakery mysteries by Bailey Cates. It's a mix of paranormal and mystery. The group's bookshelf has a category for paranormal cozies. There are quite a few of them.

fyi - There's a link to the bookshelf at the top right of the page.

message 44: by L J (last edited Feb 03, 2018 02:46PM) (new)

L J | 714 comments Thanks for the tip, Nell. I'll check on that. I'm caught up on Sofie Kelly's Magical Cat series. Love the cats in that one since most of us who have cats suspected those abilities. I think I'm one book behind on the series she does as Sofie Kelly.

message 45: by R (new)

R yay! so many cozies to read :-)

message 46: by Beth (new)

Beth | 104 comments Hi, I'm Beth. I live outside of Atlanta and I work in a library. Right now I'm reading The Mysterious Affair At Styles by Agatha Christie. I've just finished Of Books and Bagpipes by Paige Shelton and I really enjoyed the Scottish atmosphere. I can't wait to start the next Flavia de Luce mystery. I'll love to read more cozies with the group!
