Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments No, I'm reading it now. Am I only supposed to fill the book in if it's read? I was putting in books I am filling the prompts with. I will change it. I have read 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'. Not sure which prompt to use it for yet. Probably for prompt 6

message 4: by Jake (new)

message 10: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I finished In Cold Blood by Truman Capote last weekend and must say I had difficulty falling asleep the week I was reading it. I gave it 5 stars. I also got to watch the 1967 movie. So glad I am doing these reading challenges as I'm not sure I would have known about this book.

I am now reading Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand in large print and I must say I am loving it too; the book and large print!

message 11: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I'm glad this challenge helps you discover wonderful books! That's why I'm always torn between reading from my TBR and clicking on every single book link in the weekly topics ;)

message 12: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments In Cold Blood is amazing, and absolutely terrifying. I’m not surprised that you couldn’t sleep! I’m currently listening to Unbroken, and her writing is excellent, plus I’m learning a bunch about the Japanese in WWII - very eye-opening.

message 13: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments Just finished Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption Wow! What an incredible read. 5 * all the way. I now am up to 8/52 prompts read. Notsure what to read after that.

Sophie, I know what you mean. I love discovering new books but yet have 1300 books on my kindle.

Jody, I'm glad it wasn't just me! I agree with Laura's writing being excellent. Easy to understand, follow and always interesting. I had no idea about the POWs in Japan. I learnt so much from Unbroken.

message 14: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I learned so much as well - I don’t know if it’s because I’m not from the US, but I knew so little about their involvement in WWII (everything I learned, which admittedly wasn’t much) was focused on the Holocaust, and my natural leanings for further learning have followed that. I’m definitely interested to learn more now about the Japanese. The main thing that stopped me from giving it five stars was that despite her absolutely fantastic storytelling, I couldn’t connect with Louis at all. I’m still struggling to reconcile that, to be honest!

A Traveller's History Of Scotland (Traveller's History Series) by Andrew Fisher and I gave them 5 and 4 stars. I enjoyed reading about the development of Scotland although I don't think it should have been titled with traveler, just 'History of Scotland' and the picture book had beautiful pictures throughout the country!

message 38: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I read prompt #32 - An alternative history book The Boleyn King This wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Instead of focusing mostly on Anne Boleyn's son, William, it has a female character as lady in waiting to Elizabeth as the main charater. 2.5 stars
