Going into this book, my goal was to learn about the universe and the scientists who paved the way for the modern view of existence. My goal was easily accomplished in reading this book. The late great Stephen Hawking wrote the book in a way that was easy to read, yet he was able to convey his ideas in a comprehensive, cohesive manner. I learned about the discoveries of Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and other great scientists. These discoveries include the speed of light, the theory of relativity, and the uncertainty principle. Hawking stresses the dangers of artificial intelligence in our modern world. Hawking also talks about black holes and how they work and also their significance. Our universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. This fact made me think about my place in the universe as a tiny little speck in the already overwhelming size of the great beyond. Apart from what is happening in the universe right now, he talks about the origin of it and how it exists. He describes the Big Bang and why this theory is generally accepted. I began reading this book before the passing of Stephen Hawking, and finished it after his death. It made me start to think about death, and that even though he is dead, his ideas and concepts will be remembered and studied forever. Stephen Hawking will forever be remembered as one of the greatest minds to ever live and I am thankful for the impact he had on me by writing this book.

If you ever get a chance then read the original COSMOS by Caral Sagan. His book and the series present a fairly easy to follow descriotin of our universe and all of its wonders. Mr. Hawking will be sorely missed.

I re-read this book twice. It is a book written for very large spectrum of people, starting with people without any knowledge about physics and ending with people with very solid knowledge.

There is only one equation used in the whole book and rest is told by stories, which is very important as most people would not understand even the basic concepts of physics, not to mention advanced part of quantum physics.

Hawking gives very good insight of human mind and describes other big inventors and scientists from human history, like Galileo, Newton, Einstein and many others.

Easy to read book and definetely one of the top books for any person to have it in its repertoaire.
