Lowell (schyzm) | 577 comments So, I got to go to NorwesCon this weekend, which was awesome. For those who don't know, it's a fairly good sized SF/F con in the Seattle area every spring.

This year's guest of honor was Ken Liu, and he was a ton of fun. He is very funny in a kind of dry lawyerly manner. I had the opportunity to listen to him read from one of his stories about books "the book-making habits of select species." Highly enjoyable - he gave us a big of a lecture on the history of books that was quite fascinating.

I also got to listen to Nancy Kress and Steven Barnes read. Nancy is just a fabulous presence in the room and so well spoken that it's a pleasure to hear her read. Steven was utterly hilarious - his (forthcoming) story he read was bitingly satirical and ridiculously funny.

The best panel I attended was on Worldbuilding in Scifi, with an absolutely fantastic panel - Brenda Cooper Moderated, with Greg Bear, Nancy Kress, and Patrick Swenson. The sheer talent in that room was amazing, and they gave so many good tips for worldbuilding that I wish I had just recorded the whole thing.

Anyone else go to Norwescon this year? if so, what did you like?

Michelle Morrell (vylotte) I was there! I attended the Philip K Dick Awards show and was happy that my top pick "Bannerless" won. I also went to the Hugo Nominations live stream, a couple of the authors were in attendence so that was fun hearing the cheers and woops for them (Mur Lafferty's "Six Wakes" was nominated, another of my favorites from the PKD awards).

I took a writing class from Cat Rambo and I can't insist enough how much she is a lovely person and excellent (patient! funny!) teacher.

Basically five days of booky, geeky awesomeness.

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I was there. This year I only attended as a volunteer at the MoPOP booth since I was scheduled for the full Game Storm weekend the following weekend.

I had a total fangirl moment when I looked up and was is that . . . ? Sure enough, the name tag read G. Willow Wilson! Rumor has it that she will be attending the Marvel Universe of Super Heroes exhibit world premiere party at the MoPOP. I am also volunteering at that event.

It would be so much fun to try to organize a SFF book club meet up at next year's event.
