Buck (spectru) Just finished this one. This is a YA novel. It's a first novel, written by a 16-year-old. Despite all that, it's pretty good.

I grew up in that era, and could perhaps have been considered a greaser, although I also wore Madras shirts. I wasn't aware of the feud between the greasers and the socs at the time, but at age 15-17 I was certainly conscious of being an outsider.

Mustangs and Corvairs? These were the prestigious cars - the rich kids' cars? Corvairs? Really?

Suki St Charles (goodreadscomsuki_stcharles) | 25 comments I just finished rereading this one. I loved it so much when I was a kid, and although I own copies of most of my favorite childhood books, I am often hesitant to reread them in case they don't stand the test of time. I enjoyed this reread very much. As an adult, there were points in the story that I could pick apart, but as I started the book, the kid in me who eagerly devoured the book so long ago (even got in trouble for reading it in math class!) emerged, and I had a delightful reading experience.

April | 5 comments Ok, so not quite the same year that i read The Outsiders. I knew of it since the 1990s, but never got to read or finish the story until a year ago this month. It was shortly before i joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, but is one of the first books I added with a read date on here (at this moment, i have not added any dates for books ive read prior to 2024). So, kinda feels necessary to re-ignite this thread.

As for the novel itself, Im a little too young to have lived through the greasers era, but i did enjoy Grease since i was a kid, and The Outsiders movie had come out like just before my time, so I know all of the actors and it was fun going back into this as an adult. And as much as I thought this was going to be a naughty story, like parts of Grease, it really wasnt, and I kinda wish I actually DID get to finish it in High School, but alas, I did not.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3 comments I taught this novel in high school, and it stood the test of time. They loved it, and I never got tired of it. One of the few YA novels I'm familiar with and would recommend.
