Charlotte (screamqueenwannabe) | 32 comments As you know summer is coming, and it’s basically the perfect time to read for a student like me. I just wanna know what are some amazing go to summer reads for you.

With the exception of IT and Jaws. I’ve had too many people recommend that. I can’t handle the commitment of a 1000 page novel like IT.

I’m open to anything generally. However I do want it to be more on the traditional horror (monsters maybe or unseen presence) rather than serial killer and true crime.

Love you all. Thank you.

Mehmet | 1241 comments Well this is pulpy British horror, which is just a fun read. Not the highest literature. They are suppose to be a trilogy but each book is a stand alone story.
John Halkin -
Slither
Slime
Squelch

If you want something less pulpy you could try the classic of H G Wells The invisible man and island of Dr Moreau, which were both quite creepy, if not classed as horror. Unless you not read Dracula by bram stoker, then that's a high recommendation.

They Feed by Jason Parent
They Feed

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Wylding Hall, which I read last week, is a good traditional pagan/ghost story set in the 1970s.

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments Are you looking for horror books set during the summer/tropical location/beach?

It so, I'd recommend:

Tumor Fruit by Carlton Mellick III

The Troop by Nick Cutter

The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley

The Elementals by Michael McDowell

Let's Go Play At The Adams' by Mendal W. Johnson

Marie | 3997 comments I am reading this at the moment which is supposed to be about a satanic cult. I have had it on my tbr for awhile, so I thought it was a perfect time to read it since Summer is here. :)

The Summer Job by Adam Cesare by Adam Cesare

FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven
I was thinking this could be a fun summer read since it's set in an amusement park.

I forgot about that one! It’s a great book, and impossible to put down once you start it.

Erie (eerienight) | 56 comments I'm still listening to it, but so far I highly recommend The Ruins. It is very creepy, and I'm finding it truly scary.

Randy Money | 422 comments Funny you mention IT since I finally read it ... IT ... that book last summer. I really enjoyed IT.

A couple of summers ago I read Ghost Summer: Stories, a collection by Tananarive Due: The title novella is worth the price of admission. Not all the stories are straight out horror, but most are and all are well-written and engaging.

I meant to get to The Loney last year, so that's slid over into this summer. Another that isn't horror but looks dark is The Ghost of the Mary Celeste by Valerie Martin. I greatly enjoyed her earlier novel, MARY REILLY, and it's time to get back to her.

The ultimate late summer book, for me, is Ray Bradbury's SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, which naturally leads into his story collection, THE OCTOBER COUNTRY.
