About 7-8 years ago, I took a class on Forster. We read all but one of his books and then saw the movie associated with each. I suggest that AFTER reading A Room with a View, you see the movie. If you love Helena Bonham Carter, you will enjoy her film debut.

This is a brief history of the author:

Karen (karenbess) | 23 comments I am reading this (a little late) and really enjoying it. Thought it would be harder to read & dry but really enjoying it so far. It’s interesting to learn that tourists at that time also travelled with guidebooks to see the sights. I guess “Baedeker”was the Rick Steeve’s of their time. The descriptions of Italy are lovely to read, having been there myself a few years ago, it is making me want to go back & try find the Bertolini & visit vistas mentioned in the book.

I’m wondering if Mrs. Honeychurch (Lucy’s Mother) is similar to Mrs. Dashwood in Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice? Not exactly, but there seems to be a similarity there.

I think Lucy is a bit spoiled having lived in a protected bubble, but I’m hopeful it works out for her & young Mr. Emerson. Starting Chapter XI next...Cecil has shown his true colours. Can’t wait to see how it all ends.
