10 Point Tasks

10.1 Possession

In honor of Possession and Possession, read a book you had in your 'possession' before May 15, 2018. This task may not be claimed for combo. This task may only be used once.

10.2 July

July is National Black Family Month. Read any book written by one of these .

10.3 Awards

Read a book that has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize or has won or been a nominee for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

10.4 Book Lover's Day

Celebrate Book Lover's Day (Aug 9) by reading one of the top 350 books from this list: Stories for Book Lovers.

10.5 Inferno

In honor of the titles Inferno and Inferno, read a book hot off the presses: originally published in 2017 or 2018.

10.6 Cloud Atlas

Cloud Atlas and The Cloud Atlas both have weather terms in their titles. Read a book with a title including one of these .

10.7 Not Quite Jumbo (Coralie's Task)

Because books that don't quite earn jumbo points often get put aside, read a book that has between 400 and 499 pages. We will use the MPE to determine book page count.

10.8K Big City, Small Country (Karen Michele's Task)

Read a book set in one of the 30 biggest cities in the world or in one of the 30 smallest (by population) countries in the world. The book can be set in any time period, but must take place at least 75% in the target city/country.

10.8R Mom (Rebekah via Karen Michele's Task)

In remembrance of one of our long time reader's (Rebekah) mothers, we honor her by reading a book sharing one of her names: Bessie Lois Boyd Williams. Some examples would be Bessie Head, Lois Lowry, William Boyd, or Cinda Williams Chima. Names can be found in any position, but must match exactly.

Bessie left a legacy of reading; by her own avid reading, reading to her own children nightly and teaching disadvantaged first-graders to read. She imparted her love of reading to many.

10.9 Emily Bronte (Rosemary's Task)

Emily Bronte, the author of Wuthering Heights, was born 200 years ago this summer, on July 30th, 1818. Read a book by an author with the letters E and B anywhere in their name as it appears on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. Examples: James Baldwin, Robert Harris, V.E. Schwab.

In honor of the titles of Gemini and Gemini, read a book based on a Greco-Roman myth. This information should be obvious from the GoodReads book description. If it is not available there, please add a relevant link in the appropriate task thread.

20.2 Track of the Cat

Track of the Cat and The Track Of The Cat both have Western settings. Read a book shelved as western by at least 50 readers.

20.3 Gold Coast

Gold Coast and Gold Coast both deal with organized crime. Read a book about the mafia or organized crime.

20.4 The Piano Teacher

Both The Piano Teacher and The Piano Teacher are debut novels. Read an author's debut novel.

20.5 Nemesis

Nemesis and Nemesis both deal with epidemics. Read any work where an epidemic is an important part of the plot. (Polio, plague, flu, black death, ebola, etc.)

20.6 Winter's Tale

In honor of Winter's Tale and The Winter's Tale, read a book with the title format "The Something's Something". You may omit the leading article, but there will be no following words nor a subtitle.

20.7 Ambassador

The authors of both The Ambassador and The Ambassador were born in the Southern Hemisphere. Read a book by an author born in a country entirely in the Southern Hemisphere.

20.8 Summer Nights (Karin's Task)

The movie Grease was released on June 16, 1978, and one of the songs is "Summer Nights" when Greaser Danny and Australian "nice girl" Sandy each sing to separate groups at school about their summer love. Read a book about forbidden love set or published in the 1970s.

20.9 Tom Wolfe (Kate S's Task)

In memory of Tom Wolfe and his passion for saturation reporting, read a work of creative non-fiction, focused on an external subject (i.e. not an autobiography).

Creative non-fiction (or literary non-fiction) "is a genre of writing that uses literary styles and techniques to create factually accurate narratives. Creative nonfiction contrasts with other nonfiction, such as academic or technical writing or journalism, which is also rooted in accurate fact, but is not written to entertain based on writing style or florid prose." 20.10 Art World (Elizabeth (Alaska)'s Task)

Read any book where a painting or sculpture or an artist (painter or sculptor) is central.

30.1 Island Hopping
