I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I don't think I'll be able to start this book for about another week, unfortunately, but I'm very excited! The Wizard of Oz stories were all fun and interesting, and I've heard a lot of rave reviews of this book. Has anyone started yet? (:
Finished chapter 4: (view spoiler)[Paige has done a great job of catching my attention! I'm really curious about what Dorothy has done to make Oz so, er...different. Especially the corn, that was weird. I'm hoping that Indigo shows up again. She may swear a lot and dress Goth, but she obviously knows about what's happened in Oz. I predict that she'll end up helping Amy. Amy's mom is clearly, well, not a great mom :/ I feel sorry for Amy, but she complains a tad too much for my taste. In the first two chapters Amy blames her entire life and her decisions on her mother like three times. Hopefully this won't continue~ (hide spoiler)]
@Aisha doesn't it? :) I was so glad when this book won the poll ^_^
Finished chapter 9: (view spoiler)[Wow, I was certainly excited to meet Dorothy, and her attitude lived up to my expectations/apprehension. I sort of see where her jealousy is coming from, but that's no excuse for how she's terrorizing ruling Oz. Poor Ozma, I really have no idea what happened to her. I think she'll come back in this book, though. And Indigo!! :( Did she really just... melt? Just like that? It was a pretty big shock, and I don't think Amy's reaction was very realistic. She seemed kind of detached... And wow, the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow.. I wonder when we'll see the Lion. It's quite sad, to see such lovable classic characters in this retelling form. Paige has my attention, I just hope she doesn't drag things out too much. (hide spoiler)]
I started to listen to this book on Audiobooks as my free book offer but it is soooo long. I think I might just purchase to read it. I am enjoying the story but the reader talks so slow it is going to take forever to listen to it this way.
Gretchen wrote: "I finished reading the book and I give it 4 stars. I can't wait for her next book in the series. I will definitely be picking it up in 2015!"
Glad you enjoyed! :) I'm still in the middle, I haven't had much time to read lately :/
