In the winter of 1952, 3 planes crashed in Elizabeth, New Jersey. These true events are the basis for the novel. Fifteen-year-old Miri Ammerman and the rest of the town are shocked and saddened by the tragedies. Miri lives with her single mother, Rusty, in a apartment above Rusty's mother Irene. Rusty and Miri have always been close but Miri has begun to pull away as she spends more time with her girlfriends and has had a taste of first love with Marco. Miri's Uncle Henry, a newspaper reporter, is the person Miri wants most to be like. As a contributor to her school newspaper she pushes the boundaries of what the principal will allow when she tries to write about the crashes effects on the town and most especially on the children.

I didn't care for this book very much mostly because there were just too many characters to keep up with.
