Anthony (albinokid) | 52 comments For my other Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ book club, I’m in the middle of the excellent, chilling The Changeling by Victor LaValle. I’m very curious to see how it will resolve its twisty narrative.

Bill's Chaos (wburris) Still trying to read Red Rising. At first I was thinking it was going to be a 2 star book, but those 2 stars are losing their shine. If it keeps up like this I will have to give it 1 star and not bother to finish it.

Lately I have been sitting outside to enjoy the cool breeze, but in the evenings it gets too dark to read. I started listening to the LibriVox podcast. Only 10 years of podcast to catch up. The first book in the podcast is A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. This book makes no sense at all. I would probably be able to follow it better if I was reading instead of listening.

During the day I am reading an extremely boring book and in the evening I am listening to a book that makes no sense at all.

This does not sound like a very good plan, Bill. 😳

Ken (ogi8745) | 1411 comments I finished A Quantum Thief on Friday night, after a few days of digesting it and I have to say I am not really happy with it.
He wrote an interesting story but it was lost in his gobblygook words.

Started Witches Abroad

Tonight I finished The Oracle's Queen, the final book in the Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling that I’ve been reading with a different Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ group. Excellent book and a very good trilogy!

Next up, also for a different Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ group, is Temple of the Winds.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse was fantastic - a truly unique collection which amazed me since I've read a lot of post-apocalyptic SF. My 4 star review is here:

I just got home from visiting family for 2 weeks (and had more reading time than usual) and read lots while I was gone!

Rosemary and Rue (been meaning to try October Daye series for a while -- great fun and I immediately bought the next few in the series)
All the Birds in the Sky (absolutely loved it and am dying to discuss -- planning on putting it in for the next round of nominations!)
Euphoria (historical fiction about anthropologists in 1930s Polynesia - fascinating)
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (delightful)
A Local Habitation (October Daye #2)
The Unfinished Clue (I've always enjoyed Heyer's romances and decided to give one of her mysteries a try, just as much fun)

Now I'm 3/4 of the way through An Artificial Night, October Daye #3, and will likely finish it tonight :) . Next up is my mother-in-law's new (first) book We Are Going to Be Lucky: A World War II Love Story in Letters! She's edited and annotated the letters written between her parents during the war. I never met either of them, they died long before I met my husband, but I've heard many stories and both of my children are named for them.

Started Noble House

I finished Six of Crows yesterday and liked it, but not enough to seek out the rest of the series.

I had a lot of reading time today with both kids out of the house so now I'm about halfway through my re-read of Royal Assassin for the group series read. Also am working my way through Taking Charge of ADHD: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents... I love my son to pieces but he is not an easy kid to parent!

I finished Temple of the Winds and The Quantum Thief. Next up is Royal Assassin.

message 20: by Bill's (new)

Bill's Chaos (wburris) After wasting my time reading Red Rising, a very boring book, I read Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and Manshape.

Now I am reading Captive Universe. Next I think I will read Merlin's Mirror.

T. Hampton | 29 comments I am currently reading Parable of the Sower. Next up will be Royal Assassin and The Handmaid's Tale.

message 22: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 415 comments Was desperately trying to get through Debt of Honor and Inkdeath this month and it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Haven't even started Debt of Honor and Inkdeath is killing me with the thousand names for every character (even with a character glossary!).

I did get a chance to read the phenomenal Spinning Silver! It was amazing, although in a different way than Uprooted. I also started a re-read of Assassin's Apprentice for our group read, which is one of my favorite series of all time. I'm hoping that's going to get me some momentum to head back to Inkdeath.

Silvana (silvaubrey) Reading The Hallowed Hunt and I am loving it so far. Really, Bujold's writing is like a rich hot chocolate with some bitter but delicious taste.

I love Debt of Honor. Clancy's at his best period.

those are some hard books for your feelings ;)

message 26: by David (new)

David Fox (talk2dfox) | 19 comments Got quantum thief from the library, but prefer to carry my e-reader during the day, and I've been too tired most nights to concentrate on something so weird.

Instead, I've been read a pair of amusing but not too deep or noteworthy time travel novels by Wendy Nikel (The Continuum and the Grandmother Paradox), and am now in the middle of Lexicon by Max Barry. It is a decent near future thriller about a linguistic elite, with pointed references to contemporary issues, which balance out the less believable SF elements, so I'm enjoying it. Some of the ideas are pretty close to the linguistics in Snow Crash, though not as well developed.

Heh, yeah pretty much the Jack Ryan books are all good till The Bear and the Dragon. I tried twice and could not finish it.

Ken | 4 comments Just finished Mistborn: Secret History by Brandon Sanderson. In the middle of a reread of Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher and reading Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch.

I should be starting the books I plan to read for September (Declare, Soul of the Fire, and Assassin's Quest), but I am also doing a challenge that is supposed to wrap up by Labor Day, so to fulfill the "book that has been translated", I am going to try The Gray House. That's up next.

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 174 comments @ken the Locke Lamora series by Scott Lynch is quite fun (and funny) although I think Book 1 and 3 are probably the best of the four we have seen so far...

I have seriously tried Hunt for Red October once and Rainbow Six THREE TIMES and couldn't finish. I think Clancy's not my cup of tea (although I enjoyed Clive Cussler and David Weber, so I'm not sure why) but my SO has been after me for over a decade to read Debt of Honor and Executive Orders so I'm trying again.

Ken, is that your first read of Mistborn: Secret History? The ending of Bands of Mourning was rather a punch in the gut, so I was glad to have Secret History on hand to read immediately after!

It was actually my first read. I didn't even know of the book until a couple of months ago and it just came in at my E-library. I'm trying to remember how Bands of Mourning ended. It's been a while since I read it. *Goes to Google.*
