Anyway did everyone find a copy alright? My library has just relocated and aren't letting people reserve books. So I might have to postpone the 31st discussion--I don't know, I might just go hunting in various libraries for a copy...
I will read the PDF because I don't find this book in my language. :(
I'm almost done with it, just a few chapters left. But it seems good so far!
Also, if your library is relocating. You might try Libby or Overdrive. It's like all your libraries ebook and audiobooks. That's where I found my copy. But only if you like ebook or audios.
I've had the physical book on my shelf for a couple months now so I'm ready to read! Is your library a part of a library system where you can find out where the book is online and reserve it from another library? I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't take out books from the library for a while. I hope the new one ends up being really nice though!
So lie on Overdrive if your library has books that are ebooks and such and you can check it out. And once your three weeks are over it'll send it back. Same for audiobooks just a little shorter amount of time. If you have multiple library cards from different libraries. You can check our books from there too. You just have to set it up.

I didn't know that this was a retelling of The Arabian Nights: Tales of 1001 Nights!! And, to be honest, if I did know before reading it I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much...
But I did enjoy it. Mostly because I loved the protagonists relationship. I didn't like that it seemed a bit rushed--the romance did at least. But the writing made up for that! It was so rich but easy to read quickly. Has anyone read anything else by the author? I read Flame in the Mist but I didn't finish it because it was a tad boring. But after this, I definitely want to give it another try!

Is it a new favourite? I'm not sure. While I loved it, it seems a bit forgettable, but temporarily? Yeah, it's a temporary favourite

What did you think of the writing? One of the best things about this book was the writing for me. So good!
What did you think of the characters? At first I hated Shahrzad but she (and all the others) grew on me.
What did you think of the world? Ah, I loved that it was in an Eastern world. It was so cool!
Favourite character? Captain of the Guard--Khalid's cousin.
Least favourite character?Khalid's uncle, duh

Did you enjoy it? Somewhat. I loved the storytelling and imagery but was sorely disappointed with the ending.Is it a new favourite? No.

Will you continue the series? Probably not. Although I kind of want to know what happens to Shahrzad and Khalid.
What did you think of the writing? The writing I did enjoy. The descriptions were lovely, and I was able to read a lot without noticing.
What did you think of the characters? Honestly, Shahrzad frustrated me. I hated how she was so stuck on revenge without wanting any bit of explanation, then almost instantly fell for Khalid. I would have been okay with it had he done something selfless or heroic first like save her life (which he did later) and then she realizes that there's more to the story, but it feels like she just fell for his looks. The minor characters were fine but the leading characters bothered me.
What did you think of the world? The world was beautiful; interesting and different setting from anything I've read.
Favourite character? Although we never get to meet her, my favorite character probably would have been Shiva (I like characters with kind hearts). Other than that, I don't really have a favorite. I thought Despina was funny. I liked Tariq and felt bad for him. I also liked Shahrzad's dad and thought Musa Zaragosa was pretty cool. See, I more liked the minor characters.
Least favourite character? Yep, definitely Khalid's uncle.
Would you reread it? No.
My main problem with this book was the big reveal at the end, Khalid's secret. I was anticipating a curse, but something more like that he was a vampire or werewolf or something similar where he doesn't have full control of his actions or can't remember or doesn't realize he's committing the murders. But to be fully aware, fully responsible and then have Shahrzad sort of just accept it like he had no other choice. We always have a choice. Murder of innocent life is never okay. It's noble that he wants to protect his kingdom, his people from the curse, but you should never achieve a good end through evil means. If we use evil means, we become evil and forfeit the cause we had fought for in the beginning. I enjoy stories with a strong moral message, The Wrath and the Dawn, I thought, was lacking.
Did you enjoy it?Yes! I quite liked the world that she was able to create for her characters and the adventure she took them on.
Is it a new favourite?
I'm not sure if I would classify it as a favorite but deff a book I would reread again some time in the far future.
Who would recommend this series for?
I would recommend this series for someone who wants a totally cool world that has a very different type of story, yet also similar to other YA books.

YES! I am currently reading the second book as I speak! I can't wait to find out what happens to everyone.

I thought the writing was beautiful. She deff has a strong distinctive voice as an author. I love when authors bring their own styles to the table.
What did you think of the characters?
Loved the majority of them, especially shazi's sassiness but really am getting tired of Tariq. He's being really annoying in book two, like i can't even with him right now.
What did you think of the world?
The world is amazing. Sometimes authors don't quite make you feel like their world is "different" or "special" from other books but she deff did. I felt like it was a brand new place from others that I have been in.
Favourite character?
Hmmmm you know I don't feel a disnctinctive fav at the moment but in the first book I was really loving the dynamic duo of Shazi and Despina, i thought they were the funniest of friends and think it would be totally fun to spend a day with the two of them!!
Least favourite character?
Tariq!!
Would you reread it?
I would deff reread the book...unless I finish the second book and don't end up liking the way it ends..!! I also wouldn't feel the need to reread it anytime soon, but deff in the future.

I liked the first half of it before shazi started to fall for khalid it was ridiculous he killed her best friend for god's sake! It was stupid and shaz was so annoying it was a total insta love book and it's just not my thing it ruined the book for me. I didn't get the hype.

What did you think of the writing?
I felt the writing was good in telling the story itself - I'm not sure if concise is the word that I'm looking for. However, I was hoping for some more detail involving the setting and felt like this aspect of the book was lacking. Books I've read from the same region (or even books in different regions from the targeted demographic) tend to go above and beyond in describing the setting, especially with cities, buildings, landscapes, etc., and I was a little disappointed to not see more of this.
What did you think of the characters?
I honestly did not feel very attached to any of them. Shazi was very promising in the first half, but I started to feel less for her throughout the book until I just couldn't tolerate her rationale for anything anymore.

The world definitely, caught my attention, but again, I wish there was more description of the details.

I honestly didn't have one.

Shazi. She was promising as first, but that changed for me quickly.
Would you reread it?
I'd like to give this one a reread after reading the original. I always like to read the original before the retelling, and I didn't get to do that this time. I like to rate retellings specifically on how they twist the original, and not having the full picture on the original made it hard for me to form an opinion. I'd like to read it again and form a more concrete opinion overall.
Did you enjoy it? Yes I did enjoy this book even though there where some part that felt unnecessary.

No. It was fun but it had some things that I’m not a big fan of *cough*cough* insta-love *cough*cough*

This book gave me a very Beauty and the Beast feel with the main character being trapped (by chose) with a mysterious “monster�

Yes I will continue with this series. I’m very interested on where this story will go.

The writing was the best part about this whole story. It was so beautiful and rich.

I didn’t like most of the characters at but they grew on me at the end

I was disappointed by the world. It wasn’t awful but it felt very flat and not unique. She could have done so much with this especially because were the story is set in.

Shahrzad was the best one for me. I know that a lot of people disliked her but she was quit enjoyable to read and see her reaction in every situation. (Even though I’m upset that she forgave Khalid way to quickly)
Least favorite?
Tariq seemed one dimensional. I didn’t hate him or liked him, I just didn’t care about him at all. He’s not really I villain or a hero he’s just there to create some conflict for Shahrzad and Khalid’s relationship.
Would you reread?
I don’t think so. Unless the sequel to this book is way better than its a read once type of book.
