Summer is about to start in the Southern hemisphere and we invite you to get a bit topsy turvy, upside down, and jumbled up joining this summer challenge from 1 December 2018 - February 28, 2019

This is an Individual challenge, but you are playing for points against everyone else who signs up. You can, of course, create alliances with other team members to get ideas of what to read for hard to meet tasks, but ultimately the points are your own.

There are different categories depending on your books per month which are explained below. This means that anyone can join and compete against similar levels of readers

IMPORTANT

You will need to be able to access and edit Google Sheets to join this challenge. We will give you a template, but you need to use it to track your books and your points.

We work on an honour system, so we are not asking you to submit your spreadsheets for review, but all sheets need to be accessible for viewing by all players.

ABOUT
Sign up using and we will send you a google tracking sheet that you will use to track your challenge. This will feed into a main tracking sheet that will track the points of all players.
Sign ups close on December 10, 2018.

1. PLAYER CATEGORIES
You will be assigned a category of Sand, Beach, Poolside, Cocktail or Holiday depending on the number of books you read per month (see below for breakdown of categories).

2. HOW TO PLAY
You will be given a list of tasks to choose from each month on that have points allocated to them as 10, 20, 50 or 100. It is up to you which tasks you decide to cover in the month, but there are some caveats:
SAND PLAYERS: No requirements to select books from a certain points range. You are free to choose.
BEACH PLAYERS: A minimum of one 100 point and two 50 point tasks must be chosen each month
POOLSIDE PLAYERS: A minimum of two 100 point, three 50 point, two 20 point and one 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
COCKTAIL PLAYERS: A minimum of three 100 point and four 50 point, three 20 point and two 10 point tasks must be chosen each month
HOLIDAY PLAYERS: A minimum of five 100 point and six 50 point, four 20 point and three 10 point tasks must be chosen each month

Each task can only be completed once.

3. POINTS TRACKING
Players are responsible for tracking their own points by using the Google Sheet template provided.
This will feed into the overall tracking spreadsheet .

4. BOOK REQUIREMENTS
Books must be started on or after 8am, December 1st, 2018, AEDST to count for this challenge. Click here for the .

Re-reads are ok provided it has been more than 6 months since you last read the book.

The minimum page requirement is 100 pages unless a task specifies differently.

Unless otherwise specified in the task, (some lower point tasks will allow this) the following books can NOT be used:
* Comic / Graphic / Magna
* Cookbooks
* Textbooks
* Travel Guides
* Poetry
* Poems
* Childrens / Middle Grade novels and plays/screenplays can only be used where you can verify the word count through as 25,001 words or more. If you can't verify it with that site, you can check if audible has the unabridged version as more than 3 hours. If you can't verify either, then you can't use it (unless the specific task says you can)

5. CHANGES TO BOOKS PER MONTH
At the end of the challenge you will only be able to win in the category that your actual reading puts you in. So you need to monitor your books per month during the challenge and alter your own minimum task requirements.
For example,
* Sally signs up as 4 books per month. She is in the SAND category. By the middle of December, she has read 3 books. Sally thinks she will read 6 by the end of the month(BEACH category). In order to be eligible to win, Sally needs to make sure she has the minimum requirements for BEACH met (i.e. 1 x 100 point and 2 x 50 point tasks) for December.
If Sally does not meet these requirements, she will not be eligible to win the BEACH category at the end of February.

If Sally reads 6 books in December, 4 in January and 4 in February, she would still be considered in the BEACH category as for one of the months she was eligible for that category.

Getting ready for January

Players - here a few key things as we move into January:

* If your spreadsheet remains with 0 books read by the start of January, we will be deleting your individual spreadsheet and removing you from the leaderboards. This helps us keep our google drive less cluttered and helps the players know who is actually in their category

* As December has progressed we have been messaging players who have bumped into the category above and moved you as per your request. In January, whatever your category is for December, if what you are now playing for. If you want to change categories (up or down) you need to request that before Dec 31. If you end up in a category above in January, then you won't be moved unless you request it (i.e. we won't be messaging you), and you can only be moved if you met the requirements for that higher category in terms of the #s of different point books read in December.

* Start of January is 8am on the 1st Jan in Sydney Australia (ADST). Countdown is
If you are away / without access to the internet and need some time after this to finalise your Dec spreadsheet, please let us know in advance, otherwise your Dec sheet will be locked on Jan 1

* We hope you are enjoying yourselves and stretching your reading!
