D.H. Schleicher (davethenovelist) | 1 comments It’s been over ten years between publishing novels for me and I recall back then BookCrossing was on the rise and a fun way to try to find a broader audience and build buzz...but does anyone still effectively use it today as part of their “giveaway strategy?

Debating whether it’s worth the effort with my new book or if there are more effective giveaway/buzz-building strategies?

Jim Miesner (jimmiesner) Bookfunnel giveaways seem to work well.

Leah Reise | 372 comments I think giveaways are a great method to reaching readers. They’ve worked well for my debut. I think they also help authors that aren’t well-established gain exposure.

Pamela Beverly (writesistah) | 54 comments I hope I have. I guess it remains to be seen if the readers purchase any of my books over time.

I've done two review requests via Book Review Buzz this year for two of my books, which is essentially a giveaway of sorts, right?

Erica Stinson (goodreadscomerica_r_stinson) | 139 comments book funnel promos get me lots of emails, but I really wish they weren't joining just to get the free book and then never open anything again/unsubscribe afterward. I have recently started promoting in facebook groups and that's helped me get some sales and some pre-orders for my upcoming novel that is due out in February. I am doing what I can to get more readers because I hate to put so much work into my stories and no one reads them.

Comment deleted for bookwhacking, for including a link, and for pandering for reviews.

Comment below it deleted as it contained the link to the same book.

Frank Kelso (frank_kelso) | 31 comments Dwayne: thanks for keeping the thread on topic.
Erica: One way to get those "free-book-and-gone" email subs more committed is to send follow-up as soon as they join with more "free" tidbits. I send a novella I wrote as background on my characters, then follow up a week later with a related short-story. Then I offer them to become an ARC reader to get my next book free. It gets them to open emails. BTW if they take an ARC and don't review-I purge them from my list.
