This one has been born from the responses to Question 32.

Mission: Beginning September 1, keep track of titles that are missing a key vowel. For example:

No As- The Idiot
No Es- Fangirl
No Is- Bleak House
No Os- Pride and Prejudice
No Us- Moby-Dick; or, The Whale
No Ys- Welcome to Temptation

Since this one seems popular enough to have several members do it more than once, I'm extending the completion date to December 31, 2014.

Go, Team Vowel!

Y is a vowel?!

message 4: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
AEIOU and sometimes Y.
As in "my." Or working in combination as with: "stay" or "toy."
It's a letter of extraordinary versatility. :)

Right now, I'm teaching third grade. Thought I'd end up teaching HS or Jr. High with my literature/journalism background, but ended up specializing in the lower end: Pre-1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd... Maybe I'm working my way up to the higher grades!! :D

message 9: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (last edited Sep 01, 2014 07:17AM) (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
Thank you for that, Sandy. I've been truly, truly blessed to have students come back from HS, college, etc., because they had fond remembrances of being on my class. It doesn't get better than that for a teacher. (Hint Hint for everyone to email/tell that memorable teacher that she was.) ;-)

So great to have some of the new people joining us for this challenge! Welcome!

message 23: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Sandy, I know how you feel with all of the challenges. The nice thing about this one is that it can integrate with all others so I'm seeing it as a bit if a bonus.

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Sandy, try using the list of books Aitziber gave me for 150 pagers. They fit the vowel challenge!

And I agree with Kassandra, this fits nicely with everything else I planned on reading this month. A bonus indeed!!!

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments In for a penny, in for a buck! Or something like that. :D

Okay, so, no names will be shared, but maybe we want to double check our titles for vowels. Just putting it out there. X-)

message 28: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 13 comments Haha, I totally missed that! Fixing it now....

message 29: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 13 comments Note to self: Don't compose comments while simultaneously having a conversation with my boyfriend and watching TV. :)

message 30: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
Ha! You weren't the only one, Caroline! Those vowels are sneaky!

message 32: by Melissa (new)

Aitziber No As- White Noise
No Es-
No Is-
No Os- Needful Things
No Us- The Charioteer
No Ys- The Age of Innocence

I'm throwing my lot in with all of you. Starting with my September reads and moving onwards. :) The first two didn't give me much flexibility, but I'm on Needful Things now.

message 39: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Good job, Iasa!!!

message 40: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
Hooray for more "vowel-ites"' or "vowel-heads."
"Vowel-lovers" just sounds too kinky, and I've already got to live down the ugly "book slut" debacle.

message 43: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
Yeah. I did little reading in September, either. I have been chipping away at Phineas Redux, though, for No Os. And I'm part of a group that's doing Portrait of a Lady in October, which still puts me well within the challenge parameters.

message 44: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4788 comments Mod
I think it's wise to keep your options open. :D

Also, remember we have until the end of November.

message 45: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I've bought all of my vowels and I'm finished! Yah!!! Just realized this today. :)

message 48: by Melissa (new)

message 49: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Great job Melissa!

message 50: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Congrats Melissa! :D

(Only a few pages and I've bought all my vowels, too. That was easier than I thought :))
