Inej is queen!

Yes, I felt the same way with the first chapters, but I think it's because I didn't read the Grisha Trilogy prior to that, did you read the Trilogy?
Anyway, once you go further, it does get better and everything makes a looot of sense indeed~

I was briefly confused in the beginning, but I managed to figure things out relatively quickly once the story got going. I didn't read the trilogy first, but I figured it was just a learning curve like most other fantasies. I've found that her books take a little time to really get going, so don't feel bad! I'm really happy you're enjoying it! :)

Last time I read this it took me over a month to finish and I think that I've might have enjoyed it less like that, so this time I'm trying to finish it in a week. 😊

I actually haven't read the trilogy so maybe that's why I was confused? I'm glad you felt the same and that we're on the same page! thanks for responding! :) happy reading

Yes indeed, I think having the Trilogy's knowledge would help get into Six Of Crows, but honestly? I am glad I read Six Of Crows before the Trilogy because I am currently trying to get my way through the Trilogy to get to King Of Scars and...oh boy it's not that great, especially in comparison to Six Of Crows.XDDD
So yeah, I do rec going this route, Six Of Crows before the Trilogy~ Because otherwise one would be put off from reading Six Of Crows and it is just too good to pass up XD
Happy reading to you too!!~~

It will!! You'll get a hang of it trust me!!~

Yes ind..."
I did the exact same thing, and boy howdy am I glad I did. I buddy read the trilogy and that is probably the only reason I finished it and only now that I'm reading King of Scars am I glad I did. There is way too much reference to the trilogy to not read it before KoS.

Yeah, I am hardcore struggling with the Trilogy atm.XD It's just...so cliche and boring I can't. And I have no idea why everyone loves Darkling so much...to me he is nothing much at all tbh. I don't find him entertaining in the slightest. But I am only on book two so maybe I will change my opinion yet.^^
But really, I have faith in King Of Scars. So many people who have already read it are disappointed in it, but I won't judge it based on their opinions because really, I wanna read it and I trust Bardugo's storytelling is muuuch better now than it was during the Trilogy, especially judging by SoC.XD So yeah, I just need to push through the Trilogy and it's not working out too well because...oh boy.........lol

Yeah, I had to return to the first chapter and reread it too cause it just felt so random.XD
And yes, SoC ends on a cliffhanger, I am just gonna say this to anyone who is currently reading it. Go get Crooked Kingdom right now!! I have made a mistake like this, finishing SoC before I got my hands on Crooked Kingdom, but thankfully I only had to wait a week because in the middle of SoC I foresaw that I was loving it and would for sure wanna read Crooked Kingdom.
So yes, to anyone reading for the first time, do yourselves a huge favor!^^

Good! You did yourself a favor! I made the mistake of finishing the SoC audiobook during a very long car ride and did not have any easy access to the CK audiobook to start it immediately since I was driving alone. I ended up screaming to myself over the Six of Crows ending the rest of the way home since I had nothing else to do. XD

I never got the thirst for the Darkling either, or never quite understood why everyone was hating Mal so much when none of them are all that great. The Darkling made me kind of uncomfortable with how he treats and manipulates Alina. Not that Alina didn't do her fair share of uncool things, but she's also 17 years old and as the Darkling likes to keep reminding everyone, is centuries old and is preying on a child. Bleh. I think the extreme polarizing of team Darkling/team Mal comes from when it first came out and that kind of thing was still popular? I don't know, but don't get your hopes up for the third book, it doesn't get better. I personally don't despise the ending like a lot of people do, but I'm not exactly happy about how things end up.

I actually heard that book three is the best book in the Trilogy. Lol I guess we shall see, but you def are not giving me hope XDD
And personally? I don't understand the hate Mal is getting either. I like him as a character...well, like him a tiny bit more than the rest to actually be interested to see where his side of the story is going lol. But really, overall no one is well developed here. What else I find frustrating sometimes is how incomplete the map is? I had the same problem with Six Of Crows...like...why is it so hard to put all places the characters visit on the bloody map?? Sheesh...
But yeah, Twilight did start the entire "team guy A/team guy B" craze. Thankfully it doesn't seem as popular anymore and the overall love triangles craze has died down too. Because finally, everyone got sick of it.XDDD
And Darling is just...overall a big NO?! Old or not, what his appeal overall as a character is fails to make sense to me.XDDD The fact he is oh so "mysterious"?? Oh please...XD He is bland as heck.

I would highly recommend that you check out readwithcindy on Youtube. She spills the tea and her videos on the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology gave me life XD

Yes, I do watch her occasionally.XD She is brilliant!

Kaz is the best! Happy reading~

honestly same! i was a little confused by the magic and had to read the first chapter like twice before i could understand it, but the story is just soo good.

Cause I know I do~~"
I am all about Nina and Inej! They're dynamic is amazing. (view spoiler)

I'm glad you're enjoying it!

That's probably the best way to go about it! When you get to a certain part, where the last character of the group is introduced, you are going to FLY through this book!! That's how it went in my case~~^^

Perfect!!~~ Glad to hear it!!

Here's my thing with KoS...

And I think that's the main problem people are having with it.

I just wanna say that I am not starting my reread of this until later in the month (readathons at the moment!) but I AM SO JEALOUS of everyone diving into Ketterdam right now!! Hope you all love it!

Eeeh...what the heck. Certainly the narrative does seem to have a problem..hopefully that changes soon but still...heck... After Six Of Crows this is sad.
And well, Kingdom Hearts is fun XD I remember playing I and II ages ago, religiously. Those were the days~ I was such a diehard fan~
So yeah, can't blame them for that decision.XD

That's not crazy! It's amazing to hear SoC is your first fantasy book!! It's a great gateway into fantasy actually, imo!^^
Common Spence wrote: "I just wanna say that I am not starting my reread of this until later in the month (readathons at the moment!) but I AM SO JEALOUS of everyone diving into Ketterdam right now!! Hope you all love it!"
Honestly? Me too! I didn't get a chance to start a reread yet, but having lots of fun discussing here anyway, haha XD
Katterdam seems to be the best thing that happened to the Grisha universe indeed it seems.XD

That cliffhanger is sooo bad you just need the next book huh.XD

So far, Lies Of Locke Lamora seems to be the best bet. I started it a little while ago (Merphy Napier on YouTube reced it) and you know, so far, pretty good~
Also, God's War by Kameron Hurley. It's an outstanding, dark heist-kind of story, but scifi mixed with fantasy. Highly rec!! I can't wait to get to books two and three of this one!
Cozy wrote: "Finished both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. Anyone have any similar recommendations?"
I'm not sure exactly how similar it will be, but we've just announced our March read will be The Gilded Wolves! It's another heist story set in the "darkly glamorous" world of 1889's Paris and I HOPE it will be lots of fun!

In terms of there being a heist, a magic system, and really good character dynamics that's where the similarities lie

Anyway, I don't hate the trilogy, I find it entertaining. Maybe it's because I haven't read high fantasy in about two months. I'm excited and terrified for Six of Crows.

You may change your mind about the Trilogy once you read Six Of Crows. Even people who kept saying they couldn't get into it at first and even dnfed it, did enjoy it once they gave it another chance, in my experience anyway.XD
Do let us know what you think! Very curious to hear your opinion! And don't be scared of the hype. Astonishingly, this is one of those very few cases where it is deserved.

To be honest I started the trilogy just because I wanted to get to Six of Crows and I like reading books in order :D I'll definitely read it before the life show and share what I think. :)
