Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is kinda clunky in some ways. For instance, to do italics or similar you need to use HTML. BUT -- there's a little link at the top of the text-entry box "(some html is ok)". Click on that and you will see snippets of HTML you can copy and paste into your message and then edit appropriately.

I use the "(preview)" button at the bottom a lot to avoid having to come back and fix my bad HTML.

Ivan (walking_disaster) | 10 comments Here is one very important tip for those new and looking to see what community has to offer.

Spoiler tag doesn't work in updates only works in reviews and comments and people here will block you for un-taged spoilers .

Here are some general tips:

People on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ are friendly but no one likes friend hoarder so if you plan to interact with people don't be afraid to send friend request.

You can make exclusive shelves than 3 default exclusive shelf (read,to-read and currently-reading).In fact there is no limit to either exclusive and non-exclusive selves.

Unlike Habitica, Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ doesn't have a word filter so you can curse as much as you want.

Don't be afraid to write review and statuses even if you don't think you are good at it. People here like talkers and it may start many interesting discussion in comments.

@Ivan, thanks for the note. You have a huge amount of experience with Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, as your profile testifies. Please do offer hints and advice.

I hadn't thought about the spoiler problem. There was a recent news item about a Russian scientific expedition in Antarctica and one fellow kept intentionally giving spoilers for the very few books the expedition had, and finally another expedition member stabbed him. The wound was not serious but the stabber was up on charges upon return to Russia.

"you can curse as much as you want." -- but elsewhere. :-) This group is governed by KOA terms and conditions. And also we haven't turned on the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ flag that indicates we're a so-called "adult" group or whatever the term is.

Thanks again for the hints and advice.

A hint of my own: The Android app is sometimes quite limited in what it lets you do. One possible workaround is to go to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ in the browser and specify you want the desktop site. (In Chrome it's a checkbox in a pull-down menu on the right.)

I don't practice cruising but I'm against censure of any kind. I remember my quote from Margaret Atwoods Handmaid's tale being blocked on Habitica (Don't let the bastards grind you down.) which made me quite mad. Blocking, what many consider to be literary classic, is plain wrong.

I forgot about this. Desktop mode is only proper way to use Goodread. All other ways have big limitations.
