I really enjoyed Teeth. It is such a different type of vampire story.

Oooh, The Yellow Wallpaper! I can't wait to get back to it.

Laurie (coffinfinite) Recently I’ve read Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver, which was a delicious East Midlands gothic maybe-demons-maybe-witches story that I gobbled up in one day. Would thoroughly recommend it and her other works, Dark Matter and Thin Air.

I've just started Wakenhyrst! I've only read Dark Matter and I really liked it.

This House of Wounds sounds amazing, can't wait to read it.

message 13: by Jen (new)

Jen (delphyne) | 92 comments Ooh, I can't wait to hear about Maria. I grabbed a copy when she was having her Kindle sale. I'm hoping to check it out this summer.

Latasha (latasha513) I'm currently reading Brother by Ania Ahlborn. I can't wait til Tuesday to order her new book.

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen (delphyne) | 92 comments Oh, Brother is a good one. I didn't realize her new one was releasing so quickly! We need to get it added over on the LOHF site.

It's not up on Amazon yet and no blurb. I want all the info. now. *cries*

message 18: by Marie (new)

Marie I just finished this one:

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

I only gave it three stars as I have seen the movie so many times that it kind of ruined it for me by reading the book. I thought it would be more scarier, but there was no scare factor for me. :(

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl | 16 comments I read The Haunting of Henderson Close by Catherine Cavendish last week and liked it a lot. It had all those classic ghost story vibes.

I also read Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman recently but didn't love it. It was okay. I keep trying thrillers but I usually just get so frustrated with the stupid choices made that it kinda ruins it for me. ...Maybe I should stick to ghost/monster stories.

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 211 comments I can't wait for Ania's new book! Very frustrated with the lack of information (at least until tomorrow!). Some other authors I'm looking forward to that have books being released this year are Cherie Priest, J.H. Moncrieff, and (hopefully) Sarah Read.

Teeth by Kelli Owen

I like it so far. It's a different take on the vampire story and there has already been one skin crawlingly nasty scene. Loved it even it if it was completely disgusting!

message 31: by Kimberly (new)

Elisa (elisahansen) | 10 comments I'm currently reading "Stalking Jack the Ripper." About a third of the way through and not quite sure how I feel about it yet... Has anyone else here read it?

I recently read The "Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter" and "The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein" and it feels like these three books kind of "go together." I'm loving this wave of gothic-inspired lady horror fiction we seem to be having lately!

I love the SJTR series, but I feel like it has to be taken with a grain of salt it's definitely more character-driven than plot-driven, IMO, and the first book definitely has some weaknesses where you can tell it was Kerri's debut. That said, I had fun with it and thought books 2 and 3 were incredible! I'm so excited for the finale this September :D I hope you enjoy it as you continue.

I haven't read any of them yet but I love gothic-feely books. Once my schedule clears, I'm going to check them out.

Laurie (coffinfinite) I just finished The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes claustrophobic, caving nightmare horror stories. It has some really cool sci fi elements and a lesbian element as well. Occasionally the pacing threw me off but overall a stellar debut effort.
