So, I'm the proud (?) owner of my first ebook Best Served Cold.
My second ebook may turn out to be Way of Shadows if that book wins the run off for January.

The Fourth Bear
I liked the other Fforde books and these are the start of a new series

Picked up a couple of books last week
Ariel
Flashforward"
You'll have to let us know what Ariel is like. I've seen it at the bookstore a couple times now and it's on my radar...

I'm heading to NYC for my annual trip in two weeks - any New Yorkers care to comment on any new and interesting literary destinations? A new bookshops (maybe a new used bookstore?) pop up?

I love Fforde when I need to read something light but still requiring thought!

Well, not literary - but if you like Irish or celtic music....I don't know if the Eagle Tavern is still there, or if they still do Tuesday Night Free Beer for Musicians in their back room - but it made for some unbelievable GOOD music, quite free, if you have a loose Tuesday night, and the stamina for all hours. Good as some major folk festivals....

I was in a book slump last week and almost read it. I am terrible for books. I buy them and never read them. I have it on a TBR pile so it is on the horizon.

I actually laughed out loud as I read your comment, Ken. Buying books we never read, dragging home piles of second hand treasures we think we need to own, slipping them onto the pile - rearranging the TBR pile to read the ones you want to first, instead of the ones you think you should read. Leaning the pile against a wall to stop it falling on the cat, and eventually buying a whole new bookshelf to contain it. It's all part and parcel of the reader's life, eh?

Been waiting for this for a while, 2 reasons, see how Sanderson handles himself and gett some closure.

Started reading TGS this evening. :)

The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan & @BrandonSandrson is a #1 New York Times bestseller! Congrats Brandon & Team Jordan! #TGS #WoT

The Da Vinci Legacy
The Towers

I'll be curious to see your opinion of the Elizabeth Bear novel, Ron. I'm putting the finishing touches on my review of that one for FanLit.
As for me, I just received The Silver Skull by Mark Chadbourn.

But what's really got my attention right now, is the signed/numbered copy of The Gathering Storm I received in the mail a couple of days ago. :)

I will let you know as soon as I'm through it, Stefan; at the moment I'm about three-quarters through "Ink and Steel" and very much wishing "Hell and Earth" was in mmpb so I could continue the story (Bear says it's one huge novel chopped in two by the publisher) without interruption.

Case in point, I am starting to read Lois McMaster Bujold and Steven Brust. I love their work, but can find very little in hardcover. Thankfully, I have been able to track down a copy of Curse of Chalion, The. It should be arriving next week!

I'm hoping Ron has Taltos, which would be a much better starting point. (I still recommend reading them in order of publication, at least until he finishes the whole series.)

I'm forcing myself to not buy any books for myself till after the holidays. Our family exchanges gifts & I have some books on my list, so I'll shop for myself after the holidays.

I do love Baen's policy on ebooks (all around $5 or $6, no DRM and they sell all over the world) and will be buying up Lee and Miller's Liaden books (which I also have in dead tree versions) next time I have some spare cash.

I really appreciate how they often will have first books available for free. You can try before you commit to the entire series. :)
My husband used to like the Honor Harrington books and one of the hard backs came with all of the books up to that point in ebook format. If I'm remembering correctly, it even included a note to feel free to share them with others. I always purchase from them when possible.

Happily, Lois McMaster Bujold announced on her site that she had recently signed a number of books at a Minneapolis book store that people could mail order. I've been wanting a signed copy of hers for a while, so I looked to see what they had. Warriors Apprentice has been re-issued in hard cover! It should be here in a week or so!

The Bishop's Man

Speaking of whom, Hambly has just put up four short stories on her website that can be bought in pdf format for $5 each that are futher adventures of some of her characters. At the moment, two are Benjamin January stories that have been previously published, one is a convention story and the last is a new story about Antrgy and Joanna from the Windrose Chronicles.
I have bought the latter, but haven't had a quiet moment to read it yet.

Causeway A Passage from Innocence
A Problem from Hell America and the Age of Genocide

And since I cant go to a bookstore and not buy anything for me

Smoke and Shadows

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson.
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke.
Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie.

The Book of Swords
Its all about the weapon
I just placed a very large order on Amazon to reward myself for reaching my weight-loss goal. The loot:
Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman
Scales of Gold by Dorothy Dunnett
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
Blindsight by Peter Watts
The Line Between by Peter S. Beagle
The Dosadi Experiment by Frank Herbert (for my husband)
and the entire Miles Vorkosigan series, which I've been meaning to try even before joining this group :) I figured I'd want them all so might as well get them all at once (when I could use Amazon's 4-for-3 discount on mass market paperbacks!).
Also, not books, but the entire series of Farscape on DVD which has just been released again so we were able to get it for $64 instead of the $400 that people were asking on eBay!

Finch by Jeff VanderMeer and a reprint of Conjure Wife by Fritz Leiber just arrived. "
Well, you may be falling behind, but your choices still are timely. Both sound like great Octoberreads in preparation for Halloween.
Finch sounds like a pretty good sequel to City of Saints and Madmen, and possibly a little more coherently organized. In my opinion that can only help it, but "City of Saints..." held as one of its defining characteristics its postmodernist ramblings and meanderings. I wonder if even a slightly more coherent form will make the story lose any of its lustre (whether you liked that lustre or not).
To supplement my Halloween prep I just just picked up Ghost Hunters William James and the Search for Scientific Proof of Life After Death, but I already have 7 books on my currently reading shelf, so I'm really pushing it. And next month's sci-fi BOTM, Blindsight , yet to be started, looks downright scary also.
