June 2019

Wow! Best of luck! I am not sure how much reading I'll be doing in June. I have a whole bunch of projects to try and get through. That and I've been wanting to replay all the Kingdom Hearts games so I can play 3. But time keeps getting away. SO June is a project and gaming month more than reading. But I hope to read at least a few.
I am being naughty and collecting some Amazon Kindle Freebies. This means my TBR is going up.
So far I have read 2 short series books
+2 pt
Added 6 new series to my kindle tbr
-60
Total: -58 points

I don't know if I have added any new series? I might have? 🤷♀

This is my new plan for the month. The only ones I am starting from scratch are

Ooh I have Proxy too. But I refuse to start a new series this month. Bad enough I am adding them to my TBR.

I also finished the Constellation series by Claudia Gray so another one down.

I needed to finish it anyway but it was a good reason to read it. ^_^

I had no idea there was a spinoff series coming out! I'm so excited now :)

I got it as an ARC. I think originally it was put with the main series so I was like I HAVE to re-read. Now it's separate so it's probably not necessary but it will add to the story. ^_^

I have more than 20 (soooooo many more than 20) series on my TBR. I didn't even add them all here, just the ones I'm most likely to get to in the next...year or so. So -20.
I did finish a series! Technically 2 since the final book in both Spindle Cove and Castles Ever After is the same book. I'm not sure on the validity of a single book netting me double points, so I'll give myself +10 for finishing a series. And the book was over 200 pages, so +2, totaling -8 today.

I meant the more than 20 series for the negatives only if you add a new series to your shelves/lists. So if you go to the bookstore and buy an new book, or discover a series you want to read here on goodreads and add it to a wishlist or your "want to read shelves, etc. No losing points for what you had prior to the new Month. I am still listing all mine even but since I already had them listed on my shelves (or on my physical shelves/kindle) prior to June 1st they don't count against me.
And yes, if 1 book counts toward finishing 2 series that are overall separate it can definitely count toward both on finishing a series points! Pages I would say only count once though as that is just what you read.
But really, use this how you want.

So I'd say that if you haven't added any new series' to your TBR or shelves then you are at +22 points. 10 points for each series you finished and 2 for pages. :)
:) Ultimately it is however you want to do it. It this method takes off we can maybe make it more "official" but that is pending who joins in, and how everyone wants it to work. Rules can easily be tweaked.

They help me too. Even if I got myself in the negatives with amazon freebies this month. A fun accountability against yourself and a a playful 'competition' to see who is a good series reader. No prize or anything. Just fun and brag rights.

This is why you should do it as you go lol. Like if you add a book make a comment for the point loss, and whenever you post a book over at YA or something that is part of a series come back here and comment again. :)

449 pages - (Highest edition, re-read) so 225
201-499 pages earns you 2 pts
This is where it gets me: 😭
If you add a series or purchase a book toward a new series (this includes taking on an ARC) you lose points. *Not referring to starting a new series that you already owned or had on a list. etc. This is for your new discoveries.
-If you have more than 10 series on your TBR (in progress or to be started) lose 5 points
-If you have more than 20 series in progress or to start or your TBR lose 10 points.

If they are new series -10 pts each book series (so if 2 books you bought were the same series, it only counts against you once), but if each was a different series, they each count) for you I think. Because I am fairly certain you have more than 20 book series' either in progress or already on your TBR shelves/lists before June.
So come play in the negatives with me. We'll be shoppers together. :) At least you have the excuse of living up to your name.

So if you have a current standing of +2, got five new books, each from a different series, deduct 5 points, leaving a net of -3.

At least I chose a good name for me!!!
So I bought: (still editing and will add some details so hang on. lol)

0-9 Book Series on your TBR shelves/lists or in progress has no penalty
10-19 series -5 points each series you add/purchase/etc
29+ series you take -10
These points are deducted for each new series you get. So if you get 6 Book from 4 different series and have 30 series you already intend to read you will take a -40 points.
Sorry bad clarification. Fixing up top and on the main page now. Good thing June is our trial and error month. :)

I just noticed the re-read part. So re-reads are 1/2 value. So actually only 1 pt. Sorry. My miss.

I never clarified about less than 10 so that is on me completely.
Luckily we are all new here so have time this month to just test it out, get our books added, etc. Ironing out the kinks and then hopefully next month we will make it a smoother month.

Which of these series are new though? Some are volume 2 or highter so do you already have volumes 1 for those? Or read them? If so those don't count against you since the series was reading/collecting was already started. And those standalones don't count either way.

I figured about the stand alones. I have added as much detail as I can. I think I will have to have you guys do the math for me. It makes my brain hurt when I try.
Merciful Crow: "New series so I deduct points even though it has been on my to buy list for a few months right?"
No. If it was officially listed/shelved as something you intend to read it doesn't count.
Books will count if you add a new series to your wishlist (or to buy list) though. Any book toward a new series that you impulse buy, discover a new arc, click that "want to read" button for, impulse library check outs, wishlists etc. If you have physically or mentally made the choose to plan to read a series, that is when you lose the 10 pts.
Or at least that is what I intended but if too complicated we can just base it off actually acquiring (via ARC, purchase, gift, library, etc).

Everyone:
So I would love some rules feed back. This is just a light trial run this month as we all see what works. What works and what doesn't. If you are unsure about something let me know. If we need to change something let me know. WE are a bit up in the air this month but we did just start at the end of May and this is our first full month as we all learn what works for all of us. So if something works better for you, share your ideas. My only goal is to find a way to encourage us to make headway into that TBR plan that we have in place, and hopefully make a bigger dent there vs just added new series' to it.

"Rules" for if you are tracking points:
If you read a series book that was on your TBR (be it on a list, here on goodreads, on a shelf, device or otherwise intended to read) prior to the month in question you earn points.
200 or less pages earns 1 point.
201-499 pages earns you 2 pts
500+ pages earns you 3 pts
*If you need to re-read a book for a series to remember what is going on and it has been at least a full year earn 1/2 point value.
*Age, genre does not matter it just has to be part of a series. This can include novellas, childrens series, graphic novels, and even nonfiction series.
*Book pages only count when you FINISH a book. If it takes you between months (say June 28-July 8) then count the book in July for all pages!
If you finish a series that was on your TBR give yourself 10 points (WOOHOO!! YOU DID IT!)
*20 points if the series has over 15 books to it.
*Novellas are at your discretion if you intend to read them then you are not finished but if you don't then you did.
*This is in addition to the points you earn for reading each individual series book above.
If you add a series or purchase a book toward a new series (this includes taking on an ARC) you lose points. *Not referring to starting a new series that you already owned or had on a list. etc. This is for your new discoveries or impulse buys/borrows, etc.
-If you have more than 10 series on your TBR (in progress or to be started) lose 5 points for each series you have added to shelves/TBR
-If you have more than 20 series in progress or to start or your TBR lose 10 points for each series you have added to shelves/TBR
-If you have less than 10 (0-9) series in progress/TBR then no point loss!
**Exception- if you are up to date on the series and are waiting on publication than you do not have to count those toward this. You aren't finished yet but no demerits for having to wait.
This is to encourage you to finish what you have before taking on new projects.
-------------------------------------------
So a post might look like this:
Read 7 series books. Points: 16
Finished 1 series. Points: 10
Added 3 series to my TBR: -15
I found some lovely new releases on Netgalley!
Total points for XXX Month: 11
But you can tweak it however you want to.
Original standalones do not count for this at all. You can buy them with no point loss, etc. But you cant get page points either.
