☠K²¹²â±ô²¹â˜  | 9 comments I realize this would probably be good for a Halloween recommendation but I LOVE a good ghost story. Problem is I can't find any good ghost stories! If anyone has any recommendations it'd be greatly appreciated!

Betsy | 930 comments I read two collections of ghost stories recently:

older stories: Tales from the Dead of Night: Thirteen Classic Ghost Stories

and

contemporary stories: Eight Ghosts: The English Heritage Book of New Ghost Stories

There were some standout scary stories from both, and it's a good way to see what style of ghost story appeals to you (and then you can check out that author's work).

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments I want to suggest novels but the whole point of the ghost stories i read is usually the twist is that they are ghosts? So by suggesting them, it's a spoiler?

☠K²¹²â±ô²¹â˜  | 9 comments that's fine I really love books like that! please suggest them

Hector North The shining or the little stranger

☠K²¹²â±ô²¹â˜  | 9 comments Hector I'll definitely have to look them up! I love Stephen King I completely forgot all about that one being a ghost story

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Okay, going with the idea that Ghost stories are not just "ghost" as much as spooky. Most of these are anthologies.

My latest favorite author for paranormal with a twist is Jennifer McMahon.
Not only Ghost stories but read The Devil and the Deep for good supernatural short stories involving water.
The Red Tree - It's an interesting novel. A bit slow
Black Feathers: Dark Avian Tales: An Anthology - Great anthology
Dark Shimmer - twist on Snow White
Fear: 13 Stories of Suspense and Horror
Burning - omg so good
Asylum - another that is so good. YA but asylums freak me out.
The Three - this and the sequel are so spooky

I have others but this should be a decent list. :)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Only when reading books about asylums...lmao!!! Or watching watching horror movies with asylums...everything is else is usually fine.

Hector North Back in my youth I used to play this pretty morbid game called sanitarium.. The start of which is the main character banging his head against a wall and blood splattering everywhere.. It Was based on a book if I'm not mistaken. Cuckoo nest your fav movie!

Kelly | 5 comments This is right up my alley! I'll have to take a look at some of the other recommendations.

Here's what I've got:

Kill Creek by Scott Thomas (Three horror novelists stay the night in a haunted house. Horror ensues...)
Last Days by Adam Neville (Man and his friend are making a documentary on a cult from the 70's. Seems the cult made friends on the other side...Or did they?)
Ring by Koji Suzuki (The Ring Movies are based off of this series)
Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix (Employees are trapped overnight in a haunted IKEA knock-off store. Shopping for furniture has never been this terrifying)

Pixiegirl105 | 64 comments Ooooo I totally forgot one of my favorites: Black Creek Crossing

And the game sanitarium sounds really familiar.

I haven't read this one by Joe Hill yet, but I'll have to now! I like his version of creepy way more than his dad's.

☠K²¹²â±ô²¹â˜  | 9 comments Megan my little brother has been BEGGING me to read the graveyard book. He had to stay in a mental health facility for a while and said they had that book there and he devoured it.

Megan | 474 comments Kayla, the Graveyard Book is EXCELLENT! I read it to my son when he was little and it’s still one of our favorite books.

☠K²¹²â±ô²¹â˜  | 9 comments I'm definitely going to get it sometime, my brother constantly is asking if I've got it yet

message 25: by Lore (new)

Lore (delhilainthecabin) | 19 comments Hi there! A few novels I've read that had ghosts and are also classics:

The Haunting of Hill House There is now a series at Netflix that rethinks this novel and is spooky as hell, so it might be interesting to read the novel first, then see the series.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle with that cover you know something scary is going to happen. There is a movie that was just released, with the same actress from American Horror Story (a series were each season is a scary story unto itself, a haunted house, an asylum, a circus, and so on).

This two are not classics:

Craven Manor The suspense is very well done! And the ghost's apparitions are super creepy, had to sleep with a light on afterwards.

The Siren and the Specter Another great read and with a nice twist to it, so it is super creepy and not the expected ghost story.

Hope you enjoy them!
