L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2388 comments Uhm. I have my copy. Now for the time to read it! :)

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) | 660 comments The prior book was the first book that I found myself reading on my phone for a good chunk of it, and I suspect that I will do the same with this one. Fortunately it's sufficiently lighthearted to digest it in that format. I prefer print, and e-books are ok, but until now I have always read them on a tablet. I found myself in situations where I had no book with me and opted to read this in the Libby app on my phone, such as standing in line for roller coasters, or on the bus when my primary book was just too big to bring for a short transit.

I'm about 10% done and enjoying it a lot; Chambers does a good job of applying Lovelace's perspective, and I am very curious to see where Jane's story is going to go (even though we know the end point).

Jennifer | 799 comments I liked this book the least in the series, so I'm interested in hearing other perspectives. I did finish it and loved the next book, but for some reason this one just didn't resonate well with me at all.

Did anyone else end up feeling like Lovelace's personality completely changed in between the last book and this one? And I do mean Lovelace, not Lovey.

Marc, Jane's story actually (view spoiler)

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) | 660 comments Finished it last night; I must have read over half of it yesterday alone. This captures the best of science fiction: exploring the human condition through non-human lenses. I enjoyed the Jane storyline more than Sidra's, but both were good. I was surprised at (view spoiler).

A good, light read, thoughtful without being heavy. I don't know what the third book is about but I guess I fill find out in August as this series buddy read progresses... assuming other people are still 'round these parts? Anne? Ariel? Barbara? Christina? Lindsay?Lizzie? I'm sure it is normal for buddy read participation to drop off as the year progresses.

I plan to read this book this weekend...at the last minute, I know!

I will definitely be around for the August discussion of Record of a Spaceborn Few! I should be able to read it early in August.

It's a totally doable weekend read. Enjoy!

Lizzie (lizziesgoodreads) I’m still reading but being very slow about it, I’m not that far in but am enjoying it so far.

Lizzie (lizziesgoodreads) I'm over halfway through now and enjoying it. I like that the chapters are short, I always prefer shorter chapters but in this case, given we're alternating between Sidra and Jane, you don't have to wait long to get back to the other's story.

I think what's done really well is the perspective - even though it's in third person, the narration is different for Jane than it is for Sidra, the way it's told matches the character (and her age) well, including the way it changes as Jane gets older. Really looking forward to finding out more about where Jane is from and what's going on there.

I love the Aeluon colour communication stuff! Interesting to realise that something like a really colourful market would be really "noisy" for them! Becky Chambers put a lot of thought into details like that, I think.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2388 comments Thank you for the extra time to finish this one, Kristin MB!

I am on page 98. This past weekend was too busy to get much reading done and this week has been even busier. I agree about Chambers attention to detail and the very different perspectives of Jane and Sidra. They’re both totally disoriented. I hadn’t even considered what Jane’s communication skills might include or exclude...

Lizzie (lizziesgoodreads) I've finished it, stormed through the last third over a few hours this morning. I really enjoyed it, I love how it all comes together. I enjoyed both Jane's pov chapters and Sidra's, I loved the thought put into describing the point of view of someone who is differently-wired, and into the effect an upbringing like Jane's would have on her.

I agree with your spoiler! And that is all most of us can usually do anyway. We truly have so little control.
