CHECK-IN #1: Where are you from and what are your Readathon goals?
Here we go, folks! I'm chilling in northern VA with a stack of 3-4 different books I'd like to shuffle between over this weekend. I'll be happy if I finish 2 of them. I'd also LOVE to talk to new bookish buddies. Where are you tonight? And please tell me about your Readathon goals!
The scavenger hunt challenges are going up now. Please feel free to share and tag us on your various social media platforms throughout the next 24 hours, and have a GREAT time reading!

Hi, everyone! I’m hoping to get through a stack of graphic novels and make some headway on new books, too! Oh, and I also live in Northern Virginia, but you already knew that, Nette 😉
Here are your 2019 Scavenger Hunt Challenges! Remember to log them here as you find them so they count toward your point total!

I'm coming from Colorado! I won't be able to do a lot of reading but I love getting in on the conversation during the readathon and it's nice when I do get reading in during this time. I feel accomplished. lol.

CHECK-IN #2: What kind of books do you like to read while traveling?
I like fun, light, easy reads while I travel. Or the need to be action-packed or fast-paced. I love sailing through a book during vacation.

I agree! I tend to get my guilty pleasure reads done when travelling - light and fast-paced things. If they're going to be dense, then they better at least be short. I've also learned that flights between DC and Florida are the perfect length for graphic novels. :-)
Also, I've stacked up 3 points so far in the scavenger hunt: a cold drink, a hot drink, and a library book. Yay!

‪If I’m traveling via a road trip pretty much all I do is read, lol, hooray for audiobooks! They’re usually something light and fun that both my husband and I will enjoy reading. More than likely Sci-fi or YA Fantasy or a funny memoir

CHECK-IN #3: What book/series do you own multiple copies of?
Because I want to own so many different editions for so many books, I try not to own multiple copies of a book. However, my husband is gifting me the illustrated Harry Potter books so I do have multiple copies of 1-3. I then have 2 copies of GoF because I found a used hard cover and I only had the soft cover. Not to mention that I have the audiobooks for the series as well.

CHECK-IN #4: Do you read before bed?
Yes, I do even if it just for 10 minutes. But if it's a late night like tonight, I just go to sleep. Although, I was able to get in 2 hours of reading so yay!

CHECK-IN #5: What do you prefer? Hard Copy, ebook, or audiobook?
I read all types, but recently I’ve been reading more audiobooks and hard copies.

Good morning! I actually got in a solid 2 hours of reading last night! Since my husband was recording, I was on my own. So I listened to Ender's Shadow while I colored and played video games. =D
Meredith wrote: "CHECK-IN #5: What do you prefer? Hard Copy, ebook, or audiobook? "
I read all types as well. But I try to stick to ebooks because they are, generally, cheaper than hard copies. And it's easier to carry around my kindle when I'm with my kids. Although, I do love a great audiobook as well and nothing will replace the feeling of a hard copy.

Check-in 3: I own a couple of copies of Jane Eyre because I love it and it comes in fancy editions, and the illustrated Sorcerer's Stone but I don't have the rest of the fancy Potter editions yet. Other repeats I just have because I have to make my sets match or someone handed me The Vampire Lestat because they were like, "You like this book, right?" :-)
Check-in 4: I do read before bed! Last night I had a hard time sleeping, so I actually read a bunch of chapters. But I'd already turned off my timer, so none of it counts!
Check-in 5: I tend to prefer hard copies and e-books if I'm reading something for the first time. It's really important for me to see and hear everything in my own head first, or I have a hard time paying attention to it, usually. I like audiobooks for rereads though!

As I've gotten older I've found more time for all forms. When I'm at home I like to read hard copies but ebooks are so much easier for travelling. My girlfriend got me into audiobooks and now I listen to them when I'm out walking and in the 2-3 hours I get at work when I'm left to my own devices and don't have to interact with people.

I agree, there’s a time and place that I enjoy all forms. Audiobooks have definitely helped me up my reading total since I can multitask instead of having to sit and read.

CHECK-IN #6: What’s your favorite genre?
For me, it’s definitely Fantasy. I love getting swept away into another world. I’m getting more into Sci-fi as well.

Science Fiction for me, with Fantasy a close second. I find that I get absorbed into an SF story quicker than I do a Fantasy one.
With that said, I've been drawn to Historical Fiction lately having read Conn Iggulden's Emperor series before moving onto Valerio Massimo Manfredi's Alexander books. Conveniently, the latter are ticking off my 'Library Book' readaton challenge.

I usually prefer sci-fi and fantasy, but I also love a good mystery (preferable cozy) or feel-good romance. There's a reason we started an eclectic book club!

CHECK-IN QUESTION #6: Pair your current read with a good/beverage
I’m currently reading the sci-fi graphic novel series Saga, so I’d have to go with some crazy fancy drink with neon colors or dry ice or something lol

If I'd a glass of wine for every time that wine is mentioned in Alexander: The Sands of Ammon, I would be in no condition to read. Definitly wine.

I've been reading Sorry Not Sorry by Jaime Reed, she's a new to me author and takes place in Virginia... where I will be reading with Meredith later today! My other book is a library book, it's Someone to Love by Mary Balogh and is a historical romance

I'm reading Sky Without Stars, which is a retelling of Les Misérables, so maybe some French wine. And fresh bread and cheese and fruit, because these characters need some fresh food. Or maybe because that's what I want anytime I'm reading anyway. 😄

CHECK-IN #7: Write a "bad book description" for your current read.
I LOVE bad book descriptions. They're so good for giggles.
My current read: A bunch of dudes decide to kill the most popular guy in town, because they figure once they explain their reasons, everyone will be cool with it. Everyone is not cool with it.
Tell me about yours!

Audiobooks are the best at work. =) Except when you get to something emotional. I remember a few times where I had to keep from bawling at work because the book got so emotional.

I really enjoy science fiction but it can't get too technical or I get a little lost. I find that I can handle a dense fantasy and little better than a dense science fiction book.

2 hours left to go!
Personally I'd invite Farrah to dinner, from the book "Tell Me How You Really Feel" because she's a BAMF!

Sean does win this one, hands down.
I'm back on Sky Without Stars, so I'd invite Chatine over, because her snark is FANtastic. Also, someone stole food from her earlier, and I'm still really bitter about this. Rude.

Read as much as you can in the way of books. You can read audiobooks, ebooks, print books. Adult, Children’s, YA, doesn’t matter. They do have to be books, though. Magazines, newspapers, and fanfic are beautiful and beloved by us all, but making it about books evens out the playing field of challenges for everyone.
Track the amount of time you’re reading. (Use your phone's stopwatch app. This will be important later.)
We'll be posting check-in questions ten (10) times during the Readathon, as well as providing a bookish scavenger hunt for things to find in the books you're reading, or to do while you're reading. (We won't release the scavenger hunt until right when the Readathon begins to keep you guessing!)
Each check-in question you complete will be worth two (2) points, and each scavenger hunt item will be worth varied amounts of points, but the total amount of scavenger hunt points you can earn is 42, which means you're trying to earn a total of 62 points. And if you miss a check-in when it's first posted, you can always catch up and post your answer later.
What are the points for, you ask? An amazing prize, of course!! If you end up with the most points at the end of the Readathon you’ll win your choice of one (1) Eclectic Readers Book! (Check out the titles of our podcast episodes or our bookshelf here to see which books qualify.) If more than one person has the same amount of points, their names will be entered into a drawing for the prize.
We're also giving away a prize of one (1) Eclectic Readers book of your choice for the most time read, so make sure to use the stopwatch app on your phone to track your reading time, because at the end of the Readathon we'll ask you to take a screenshot of your stopwatch and post it to your social media platform of choice (Litsy, Instagram, Twitter, etc) and copy the link of that post into this thread. (Again, if more than one person reads the same amount, we'll have a drawing for the prize.)
Our prizes are for U.S. participants only, but we hope this won’t stop our international friends from playing along!
We'll also be posting the check-in questions on our Eclectic Readers Litsy and Twitter pages (@EclecticReaders and @EclecticReadPod, respectively).
We hope you'll join in the conversation there and use the hashtag #EclecticReadathon on your own posts, but in order for your points to count towards the prize, you MUST log your check-in answers and scavenger hunt points in this thread! If it isn’t here, it doesn’t count!
I think that pretty much covers everything. Let us know if you have any questions and we'll see you right here shortly!
