I don't mind how old they are, but I worry about availability in the cases of Zaregoto and .hack//CELL, since the publisher sites either no longer list them (meaning they are no longer being published distributed State-side) or are from an all but non-existent company (in the case of Tokyopop).
I'm afraid I can't take Zaregoto or .hack//CELL as a result, but Ballad of a Shinigami and Death Note: Another Note are definitely in.
If you'd like, you could try and start a buddy read for Zaregoto and .hack//CELL. Once I catch up on a few other books I'm reading, I'll probably join you for Zaregoto. :)

:D I'd like to read Zaregoto again, especially with someone else to discuss it with and since I finally got the second one. If you'd like to let me know when you are caught up on your books, maybe we could read it together? \^0^/
^ I'm currently buddy reading another LN and then also reading the group read here, so maybe when one of those are finished, lol.
You could also post in the "Find a Buddy (Read)" thread and see if others are interested as well. :)

Log Horizon and No Game No Life are both coming out in April.
Yen Press seems to be picking up tons more light novels, I'm throwing my money at them in hopes we get more actual official translations, I also need to start creating shell email accounts and flooding them with requests for Qualia the Purple to get a translation in both it's forms.

Didn't Yen Press also publish SAO?
@ Aaron: Index is out and on our list. ;)
I'll hold off adding Log Horizon and No Game No Life until they're actually out so I don't accidentally put them on the next vote (since that'll be in February). I will definitely add them once they're out, though, as I really want to read those too.
@ Brandon: Yen Press published both the LN and the manga for SAO.

I thought so... I remember hearing something about how Yen Press censored a chapter from SAO or something. I had a friend who got really upset because he's one of those hardcore SAO fans.

Oh? I didn't hear that. Where'd you see that?
Edit: I looked it up. Apparently it was some kind of bonus chapter that was reeeeaaaaallllyyy explicit and out of place. I can kind of understand why they took it out, since the rating systems differ between US and Japan.

Ah! Is that what happened? I thought it was weird that they'd include it in the print. So Yen Press just translated the print edition without web content. That's perfectly reasonable then. *nods*
Is Fairy Dance that bad? (Is that the ALO one that was in season 1 of the anime?)

So that's what it was. I didn't know what happened. I had just been told by a friend who orgasms whenever SAO is mentioned that Yen Press didn't add in a sex-scene or something.
Fairy Dance was awful, especially compared to the first arc, which actually had a decent plot and character development. The GGO arc is pretty good though, and Mother Rosario was nice, if a bit boring.

Because okay
SAO happens everyone is a bit damaged inside from it.
Mother's Rosario is basically Asuna dealing with getting back into her normal life and with the Trauma that happened in SAO.
Alicization is Kirito getting over himself and realizing that he isn't the best it's kind of his growing up arc, and accepting the things he did in SAO and becoming the black swordsman once again.
GGO is more Sinon's story with Kirito thrown in, while it does show off some of his Trauma from SAO it's really about Sinon not Kirito.
Fairy Dance he basically shows none of his inhibitions and problems he has in Alicization so when they occur later it kind of makes no sense like he went backwards in character development for no reason after basically skipping to instantly fine in ALO.
So the problem with ALO isn't so much that it's bad...but it makes everything after it worse by existing.

Hey guys, in order to keep this thread semi-on topic, I ask you take discussions to the general discussions section. ;)

Sorry Selena, I'll be sure to keep anything not related to suggestions away from this thread.

Oh sorry about that. i thought that i could get some suggestions here, because of the thread title. hehe...
Sumimasen deshita~ okay, it won't happen again.
Added a bunch of suggestions that will be out by the time we do the next poll. ;)
Namely, Log Horizon, No Game No Life, and Devil is a Part Timer

I wouldn't mind getting behind No Game No Life or Devil is a Part-Timer. I'm holding off on Log Horizon right now. Namely because if I read that, I'm afraid it will ruin the anime.
I've had to remove Ballad of a Shinigami because, even though it's still listed on Seven Seas Entertainment's website, it doesn't seem to actually be in print any longer... Let me know if I'm wrong and I'll put it right back in the main pool.
It just so happens that most of the light novels that I thought were really good and would recommend are fan translations, not official translations (the only exceptions are "Spice and Wolf" and "Zaregoto"). Those you can find them online for free at various websites.
The light novels I thought were the best: "Spice and Wolf", "Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria", "Toshokan Sensou", "Zaregoto", and "Gekkou".

"Rakuin no Monshou" is also probably one of the best based on what I heard, but I haven't read it yet:

There were some I thought were pretty good but not quite as good as the ones above, so I wouldn't recommend them to everyone because they sometimes take a bit more patience for one reason or another: "Oregairu", "Kara no Kyoukai", "Log Horizon", "Rokka no Yuusha", and "Chrome Shelled Regios" (maybe just the first 5 or 7 vols for this one).

@ Cris: Wow, that's a lot of suggestions. Some of which are already on the list (or were, and we've read them, so now they're hidden in that spoiler tag). Please check the suggestions that are already listed so I don't have to sort through as many (I'm only one person, after all. ^^;;;)
We only do group reads of light novels that are currently licensed and in print in the US, so the following aren't applicable for a group read:
¿Õ¤í¤ÎÏä¤ÈÁã¤Î¥Þ¥ê¥¢ 1 Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria 1
Toshokan Sens¨
Zaregoto 1: Book 1: The Kubikiri Cycle (license has lapsed)

I can, however, add My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong as I Expected, Vol. 1 because it is licensed and will soon be published here in the US.
For all of the ones you suggested for group reads that I can't include, you are welcome to start a buddy read for.

Yeah, sorry, I was just suddenly pouring out my list of suggestions without bothering to check what others already offered. I had a feeling that there would be some obstacle with the fan translations. Well, since I'm reading the "Utsuro no Hako" series right now, I'll go set up a buddy read thread in the morning. Not sure if anyone else here is currently reading that, though.

Yeah group reads are limited to stuff that is published in English or at least the official group reads are otherwise this list would blow up out of control also part of the intention of the group as I understand is to help support the localization of these books.
I posted my recommendation list on this group lower down and it's filled with webnovel/translated things.

Yup. Pretty much. Can't expect more official translations if we don't support existing things.

A Fox's Love
If no one feels like reading this, then that's okay...

Haha, since this is my book I'm suggesting, I'm not sure if I'd even be able to participate.... that's sorta why I'm hesitant to suggest it. I don't even know what sort of reception it'll get, and part of me's deathly afraid that people won't like it.

If this ever does get selected for a group read, I do hope that everyone enjoys it. It's basically an anime/manga/Japanese light novel parody, taking the sort of storytelling found in Rosario+Vampire, Vol. 1 and To Love Ru, Vol. 1, but placing the characters in the United States instead of Japan.

Have we read this book in this group? If not, we have to. The book takes us throught the red light area of Tokyo and throws a lot of questions on the strangeness and loneliness creeping in lives. It's not at all preachy as it may sound but has backdrop of a murderer at large.

(view spoiler)
But yes, not everyone would like it.
