The Maze Runner starts off with Thomas finding himself in a box with no memory whatsoever except for his name. When the box is opened, he finds himself in a large expanse enclosed by stone walls they call the Glade. The Glade is divided into four sections known as the Gardens, Blood House, Homestead, and Deadheads. In the corner of the glade, there is a forest. Outside of the Glade there is an open maze that closes at night and is filled with grievers. The Glade is filled with teenage boys, a new one arriving every thirty days. Except that the day after Thomas is put in the maze, a girl arrives just a day after. There has never been a girl in the Glade and she has arrived with a message. To complicate things more, everything seems familiar to Thomas as if he has been there before. The people of the Glade will have to find their way out before they get killed, and Thomas believes he knows the way.

Ok if you guys wanna know the app. year and location, I think I figured it out. Assuming the event known as "The Scorch" happens in 2030, I would say the flare virus happens in 2031. Ava Paige explains that the next generation, presumably the kids born between 2035-2045, are the only ones who can survive the virus. The oldest mentioned characters are all under 20, so it is safe to say the book takes place around 2056. Thomas, Newt, Gally, Theresa are all born in 2040, Brenda in 2041, Jorge is born in 1996, Ava Paige in 2000, and Janson in 2005. As for the setting, Brenda is Canadian, and Newt is mentioned to have an unusual accent, so I would assume that the glade is somewhere in the western U.S., the ruined city is one of the costal cities, and the Mts. are the rockies. I thought Newt was British because he says 'bloody' a lot and that (I thought) was a british thing (maybe). All the England people, please don't get offended if I'm wrong.
