Jill | 12 comments One of my favorites by her is The Matchmaker. I also enjoyed Summerland and Beautiful Day. She is a prolific writer, and I don't enjoy some of her books as much as others. But they are above average chick lit to me. :D

Good Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. LOL He gets a little too vivid with his "bathroom details" at times. One of my favorite books ever is 11/22/63. I also really enjoyed The Green Mile, The Stand and Hearts in Atlantis by him. If you haven't read 11/22/63 I highly recommend it and then watch the miniseries on Hulu. It's not as good as the book but still enjoyable.

I have seen the movie of This Boy's Life with Leonardo DiCaprio, bu I haven't read the book. But it looks good so I should read it. :D I just put it on my reserve list so hopefully I'll get it soon. It falls into the memoir genre. I love them too. :D I have read Gone Girl and really enjoyed it. I read Sharp Objects too, and I think she is a great writer but I just can't stomach her descriptions. I guess King and her have that in common to a certain degree. They are too good at describing gross things. I picture them too well while reading their books. And I'm not a sensitive person about things like that but they just take away from the books for me.

Thank you for the recommendations. :D

Thanks, Jill. I'll start with The Matchmaker and if I'll enjoy the book as much as you did (which I'm sure I will as I have a soft spot for good chick lit) then I'll read Summerland and Beautiful Day.

I'm yet to read 11/22/63 and what a coincidence, another member and moderator, Dagny, happened to mention this book just a couple of days ago on another thread and seeing how much she loved it I got its audiobook. So I'll be going to read it for the 2019 audiobook challenge. Knowing you also love it makes me more confident in going for it (it is a bit longer than other audiobooks on my list.) Thanks! And I didn't know about the miniseries, so thanks for that too. I'll try and download it in time to watch it after finishing the book.

There's a movie on it?? That too with Di Caprio?? OMG. I have no clue why Robert McCammon doesn't get the same kind of fame other big authors get. I'll try to get my hands on the movie next year. And do let me know when you read the book, as I'm getting tempted for a re-read now. Lol. I rarely find the books so touching and beautiful, so I'm sure you'll like it too (love it in fact!)

Yes, King and Flynn tend to be pretty descriptive when it comes to gore. I am too in my own books, that's why I love them lol. Talking about thrillers have you read The Drowning Girls and Sister, Sister? They both are really good and they are not gory, so you might really like them (I totally loved them both!)

This Boy's Life is not a film of Boy's Life by Robert McCammon. You can read the details about the film here:

It's based on a book of the same title by Tobias Wolff. (This Boy's Life )
It's a similar name, but not the same. That said, the film might be a good one. I have not seen it, only heard about it.

Phew... that's what I was thinking. Thanks for this Cheryl and also for introducing me to the awesomeness of Robert McCammon's writing!! I'm planning to read Night Boat in the coming year :)

Heena-I hope you enjoy the books. You will have to let me know what you think of them. :D The Drowning Girls looks interesting. I will have to read it. And the only Sister, Sister I could find is by Eric Jerome Dickey and doesn't look like a thriller. I looked for thrillers with names close to that but can't figure out which one you meant. Sorry about that. Who is the author of the one you recommended?

Cheryl-Thank you for clearing up my mistake. I found the book Heena meant and have added it to my reserve list. :D I haven't read anything by Rober McCammon though I did try to start Swan Song once and didn't get far. I can't remember why. Have y'all read it?

Dangy - I have been reading King since I was a teenager and I either love his books or I have to stop reading them because he just gets too gross for me. LOL Have you read any more of his books since reading 11/22/63? I think he's a great storyteller. And he does a good job of writing a love story too. :D

Jill,

I never read Swan Song. It sounded alot like Stephen King's The Stand, which I had already read. (I'm not saying it's not worth reading, though.) Boy's Life was definitely good, though. You can give it a try sometime.

I'll definitely let you know once I read them. I guess it's because of the comma I added by mistake. It's Sister Sister by Sue Fortin. It was a really, really good book. Hope you'll enjoy the recs.
Oh, and happy reading Duma Key - it is one of my favourites too!

Jennifer | 8 comments Hi all! I'm Jennifer. I'm 37, and I love books, animals, gardening, music, games and most combinations of the above. :) I took a combination of business and literature in university so while I may try to seem practical I'm a dreamer at heart. I also have a 7 year old so I'm starting to experience some books all over again with her. It's fun.
I look forward to reading and chatting and getting to know you all. I picked up the buddy read for this month also so I should probably go take a look over there soon.
Thanks for having me!

Debara Carlson | 5 comments Jennifer, reading with your daughter is a great way to lure her into reading. Both my parents read to my brothers and I the books they loved. Most were classics like Jules Verne, Mark Twain, and Frank L. Baum. Because of the book choices, I’m used to the language of the classics and am not deterred by it except for Henry James.

Peter Meek (pwmeek) | 36 comments (belatedly) Hi; I'm Pete. I've been a book person since my parents and grandfather taught me to read words (not letters; I didn't learn letters until I began school) starting at about age three. I once estimated that I had read in the neighborhood of 50,000 books in my 75 years (yes, that's two or three a day at times). These days, rereads outnumber new books by about ten to one; I suspect that it's laziness - just unwilling to make the effort to search out new books that I might like as opposed to rereading a sure thing.

Trailgal | 1 comments Hello Bibliophiles!

I'm Holly A., a retired Dr. with 8 grown internationally adopted children. Had a blast homeschooling them, though I was the last person who thought they'd ever homeschool. I have gardening and animals deep in my blood. I foster terrified and feral dogs for rescue groups and have a large pack of my own. I love art glass, horses and riding, travel (especially to warm places), real estate, psychology, and cooking. I'm a bit of a book addict like most of you LOL

My latest projects are rehabbing a 40 year old farm house, and learning enough to grow, market and sell produce from our farm.
