I'm still debating my Auto Buy book. I just know it's going to be one of those reads that just hurts to get thru - all the torture and the betrayals.

Also have to mention that Toby can be a little annoying the 1st couple books - always referring to herself as a "hero" but that's her thing & you get used to it. I actually think there are drinking games based on things like it :P
I started reading the series last year during TT (all those buddy reads!) and a couple of us continued on. I actually think that may be one of the main reasons I actually read the series!

I'll update the books and request the stamps for those 2 shelves tomorrow!
Oh and yes Nici, that Raj short was great. But it was also a little sad. How he had to hold himself away from people because he knew that he was going to be king.

For Favorites, still need Nici's book.
For Auto Buy, still need books for me and Suzanne.

Selection Post for Fantasy Romance:

The Orchid Throne
How it fits: it is on p. 17 of the shelf list. I got it on netgalley and am (obviously) behind on reviews, so this is a good one to read.

Review: So this was fairly formulaic, but not AS formulaic as others in the series. Fin's mother, who he thought was dead, returns to town and completely charms him. Others are not so entranced, and Gin spends a lot of time trying to support Fin, while she also is keeping an eye on "Mom". It was a fun book - nothing super special, but I didn't get annoyed about how everyone was treating Gin, which has been happening fairly often in this series :)

Review:So close to being my 1st 5-star of this series! As much as I love this series, there's always some aspect that holds me back and unfortunately this was no exception.
I love Elena and Raphael and was really happy that the story was more focused on them and the overall Cascade arc. When Elena started regressing I didn't think it would go as far as it did, so I was shocked by how it ended. Like WTF?! I love the relationship between Raphael and Elena but to be honest, I could've done without all the love scenes. Crazy, I know.
I didn't remember the whole Cascade effect being so "aware", as was the case when Elena was fighting the villain towards the end. And I got a little distracted by the whole Harrison/vampire killings mystery that Elena just had to solve. But I did like that we got to see a little softness from Jeffrey because of it. And we got to see her grandparents again, who are still a part of her life.
This left off on one helluva cliffhanger so I'm hoping I can fit in the next one ASAP!

It never works for me either. Always times out!
But it was on the 2nd page so easy to find - tagged 7x.
And I totally forgot about that series. AAAAHHHH Ilona Andrews!! Need to get back to it too.

And yes - I really enjoyed the first one, but I pretty much like anything Ilona Andrews writes.

First GR takes away the pages for the shelves (remember it used to go up to 100?), now it won't let us use the short-cuts to find if a book works for a particular shelf. They are making this a lot more difficult (& time-consuming)!

Review: This is definitely the first book in a series - there is lots of world building, and not a lot is resolved (although I felt like it ended in a satisfactory place. An evil Emperor has taken over most of the world. There are two pockets of rebellion/freedom - on is "the Slave King" - a real king who has been slaving in the mines and is slowly progressing towards the Emporer. And the country of Calenthe, which has stayed free through subtle manipulation. There is definitely romance in this book, although it is way more fantasy. Calenthe is especially interesting.

So, changing my read (since it now fits, thank you to that 1 person who shelved it!) to the new Jane Yellowrock book coming out this Tuesday:

Review:
What a ride! Even though I had no doubt in the end things would work out for this particular storyline, I still experienced a range of emotions reading this. I must admit that thinking back, I was a little disappointed in Jane's running away at the end of Dark Queen but should've had more faith in her merry band of misfits not letting that happen. (They're not really but just like the way it sounded :P )
Most of our favorite characters were back, except (view spoiler) . There was a bigger badder, somehow even more evil, villain that our team had to fight to keep control of their vamps and territories which luckily was resolved by the end. I did miss some of the usual New Orleans characters but there wasn't too much time to dwell. There was action aplenty to keep me on my toes.
This installment felt a little different than the others primarily because of Jane's cancer. She was a little more introspective, and not quite as strong or bad-ass as her usual self. But I loved Jane's inner strength, her loyalty and dedication to those she loves, and the relationships between all of these characters is one of the things that brings me back again and again.
Gimme the next one now please!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review:
So I was a little underwhelmed by this book. I had heard such great things about this author, though it was more about her Strange the Dreamer series. It had a great premise, the setting was unique, the characters intriguing. I did enjoy the initial world-building and thought the writing itself wasn't bad. It's just that the closer to the end that I got, the more generic it felt. And those last few chapters, with the big twist and revelation, was a little predictable.
I can't say that I didn't enjoy it, just that I thought it would be better. I already have the next 2 so will eventually get to them, most likely because of one challenge/game or another. Just hoping the next one is better than this!

Review: So I never read the synopsis of this book, and I totally expected the same main characters as book one, but it was not. I ended up liking the new characters (we'd met William in book one), but it took me awhile to mentally switch. I liked Cerise - but I like all of the Ilona Andrew's women characters because they are strong and not just waiting around for a man to save them. Cerise is caught in the middle a war between magical nations, and William is hunting an evil magical killer. Their interactions were great - I liked the humor, and I liked the swamp setting.
