Can't say that I have; I don't think she has been active in some time. Should you send her a message?

:0) That's what I do best!! LOL

I'm going to do some major book butt over the weekend!!! I'm in a challenge for another group that only covers books under 150 pages and I've got a boatload of them on my kindle - I can blast through a book that little in barely any time which will only give us 10 points for each one, but those points add up fairly quickly!!

Sounds good to me! I'm working on a big book now but then this weekend I plan to knock some out that I borrowed through Lendle.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Sydney, I see you just finished Wintergirls. What did you think? That was my second book by her and I found myself wishing that there were books like that around when I was in junior high/high school. I really liked it.

I thought it was good. I definitely think teenagers in high school should read it. It gave me a perspective that I haven't seen before. What other book did you read by her?

message 165: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments BOM reads are now worth 30 points

The captains and mods have discussed it and we've decided that points should be equal for BOMs and Buddy reads.

There's no cake in the captain group. I keep looking for it. I figure if I think there is cake, I'll remember to read it :)

I loved Speak.
Have you read The Impossible Knife of Memory? That one is really good, too.

message 172: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments Remember-
You don't have to answer all (or any) of the BOM questions if you don't want to. You can choose to skip them as long as you discuss the book in other ways(your favorite passage, how the book made you feel, what you thought about a chapter, etc.)

Captains, please update your spreadsheets sometime on Sunday in your time zone. We'll then let everyone know the current team rankings.

If everyone could have their shelves updated by 9 am on Sunday. 9 am US Eastern time I mean :) Then I can go through Sunday morning and make sure everything is tagged and get an accurate point count.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) My spying tells me we are in either last place or second to last place. Guess I better get to reading some more big ones.

message 182: by Eni (new)

Eni | 2349 comments your spying? =p

message 183: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (laparks) | 729 comments I'm trying to set up a buddy read with a book that I'm waiting to come in at the library, to help bring in more points than my 20 point apiece books, and I'll see if I can find a few more bigger more point books to help boost up my total!

message 184: by Eni (new)

Eni | 2349 comments Ok so the next scheduled book is on the 22nd. So i'll try to finish Needful Things by then. It's a bunch of pages! Me and the little one are both sick and my mom is coming over this week, and she's also sick.. so not sure how this week will turn out >_< but i'll try!

(nothing serious, just a minor cold or something)

message 190: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Now that my weekend of non stop gaming for the WoW release is over I can start picking up some of my books again. I'm almost finished with 2 and starting up a couple BR's so will hopefully put some points on the board soon.

message 191: by Imke (new)

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments I've finished Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher today, this is an audiobook, the mass market paperback has 480 pages for 50 points (or do I use the kindle edition which has 428 pages for 20 points).

I've started Outlander by Diana Gabaldon also on audio. I don't know what to use for page count for this one, some versions have about 630 pages (70 points) where other versions have 850 pages (90 points). I'm also joining the Outlander Buddy Read for an additional 30 points

message 192: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Imke, I'm going to see what the mods say and I'll let you know.

message 193: by Imke (new)

The rules say to use the default edition. I think that means that Proven Guilty at 480 pages for 50 points and Outlander at 627 pages for 70 points. I'm still going to double check this but for now, this is what I'm thinking.

message 196: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) If you are in the spreadsheet tonight and you see that Imke's page count for Proven Guilty is wrong, I'm on it and it should be fixed as soon as I get mod feedback.

message 199: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (laparks) | 729 comments Earlier tonight I read a tip from another team that said the chattier teams tend to fare better in these kinds of challenges, so I thought we could have a 'random question of the day' type of thing to get some conversations rolling and also help us get to know each other a little better.

If I happen to come up with a question that makes you uncomfortable to answer, by all means, don't feel that you have to answer! But by that same token, if you have a funny story or anything to share to elaborate on your answer, please feel free!!!

I'll start with an easy one:

•What is your favorite weird food combination?

My favorite weird food combo is a turkey sandwich and potato chips. I know it doesn't sound all that weird, until I mention that the potato chips go inside the turkey sandwich. And sometimes if we have it in the fridge, I'll even add a layer of french onion dip on top of the mayonaise to my crunchy turkey sandwich!!

your turn!

Potato chips or fritos inside a sandwich makes everything better!!

My favorites make people gag. So you take applesauce and you put it on macaroni and cheese (the box kind). Mix together and yum. Applesauce also goes well with rice or french fries or green beans. Yes, mixed together. Yes, I'm definitely weird.
