I haven't read it yet and have been meaning to. I'd love to join. Somebody needs to kick my ass and make me read more so I can meet my 2014 goal. Been watching too much Walking Dead and American Horror Story; normally don't watch TV and would rather read. Ugh.

Chapter 7

(view spoiler)[ Read up to chapter 7 in one sitting. I was happy in the story. It wasn't setting the world ablaze but seemed to be building up to something nasty.

However, chapter 7 pulled me out of 'the zone'. I appreciate what the Mr Newman was trying to do, but for some reason the world he built kind of melted away a little. It's probably just me being a whiney bitch.

Anyway, enjoying the story so far. Although I reckon I know what's going to happen.

Popping in to see how it's going. I guess it's just getting going now. :)

50% in and I'm not jumping for joy. (view spoiler)[ The main character seems so "out of reality" as in, he doesn't seem to realize or recognize the situation that he is in. That part has really put a stitch in my side as he comes off as a simpleton who can write bestsellers. Not realistic.

I know he just wants the whole situation over and is being helpful to the police, but at what point do you say "Hey, let me call my lawyer?"

Mr Holland is not an endearing character. Nor do I have any sympathy for him or anything. (hide spoiler)]

I was thinking the same thing!

Finished and really irritated by this read. Not in the unsettling way, but in the "for real?!?! way. So many unbelievable moments. One situation that did it for me was when Karen came by. (view spoiler)[ Did he really just stand there as everything happened?! Everything was an afterthought for him: angry after she was dragged away, thought to call the police after everything happened, thought to get out of bed after multiple sounds and bangs happen around his home, after his daughter bites the cop-dude. Where was this guy's backbone? What the hell was Jason doing during that whole final scene, just staring ahead in the driver's seat? (hide spoiler)]

That's funny, Nikki. I really liked this one, but can see your points. I was on a Newman roll when I read this one and really liked it.

I'm at 32% and liking it so far. I'm getting a creeping sense of dread every time he interacts with his neighbours.

I'm on my phone and can't do spoilers. I kept thinking there was something paranormal that was motivating the neighbors.

I hope you all don't mind that I was also lurking. I just finished reading this one and while I had some of the same thoughts that Nikki brought up, I was still horrified! I gave it 4 stars.
