I read A Loyal Character Dancer by Qiu Xiaolong.

It's set in Shanghai, this is the second time I've read a book set there. The other was the first in this series, Death of a Red Heroine, which I read for the Far East Asian prompt last year.

I read West from Home: Letters of Laura Ingalls Wilder, San Francisco, 1915. This took place in San Fransicso.

I read Golden in Death, the newest book in the In Death series by JD Robb. Tis series is set in the future in New York City. I have read many many of the books in this series. I love it.

I have read a few books set in New York but before I joined this site and started doing these challenges I mostly read fantasy where the worlds are fictional. This site has helped me broaden the genres I read.

I have not read The Great Gatsby, it was not required reading for any of my English classes in high school. However, I keep seeing memes and references to it so I figured it is one of those books that should be read at some point in your life.

I read Big Little Lies for this prompt, which is set in Sydney. I wouldn't say I seek out books based on setting, but I have read other books set in this city, also by Liane Moriarty.

I read Once Ghosted, Twice Shy by Alyssa Cole which is the next book in the Runaway Royals series which I love. It is set in New York City. So many books are set in the US and many of those are in New York so it's a common setting in books I read.

It has taken me an embarrassingly long time to check off this prompt; I'm so far behind in my in-order challenge.

In fairness, I picked up a lot of books that could have worked and then dnf'd them. I ended up reading Enter a Murderer, a classic mystery set in London. It was pretty well done. I do read a ton of books set in London just because it is such a common setting for classic mysteries. Initially I wanted to avoid London books for that reason but with limited access to the library I couldn't afford to be that picky about it any longer.

I have read a lot of books set in London and many set in China. I can recall a few set in Japan, but I had to really work to find something I wanted to read in Paris. I highly recommend the Shanghai and Tokyo choices for learning about these cities.

Regular: Big Little Lies Liane Moriarty-Sydney, Australia, I have read several books set in Australia and have enjoyed them but I do not seek them out.

ABC: Bone Thief Thomas O'Callaghan New York, New York-This one I had a hard time finding a book which had the right setting and a last name to fit the alpha order. This turned out to be a surprise. I really enjoyed it.

I just finished The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker and it was amazing! 4.5 stars

2. Which city is it set in?
New York. This book really showed that this was a global city because our two title characters are from different folklore, Jewish and Arabic.

I read Tiger's Daughter by Bharati Mukherjee set in Calcutta, India. I enjoy many books by Indian authors (Salman Rushdie is one of my favorite authors of all time.)

The setting of a book doesn't usually sway me one way or another on whether to read it or not.

For this prompt, I enjoyed Bellevue: Three Centuries of Medicine and Mayhem at America's Most Storied Hospital. Bellevue Hospital is located in New York City. I loved the stories and anecdotes. I occasionally read books set here.

I read Ira Levin, Sliver for this topic. Set in Manhatten, it was described by Stephen King as 'the ultimate fin de siecle horror novel' - not a genre I usually read or enjoy. However, I couldn't put this book down. It's rivettingly horrible, in short.

While I chose Harmless Like You by Rowan Hisayo Buchanan because it was supposed to be set in Berlin, it mainly took place in New York. I usually read books set in New York, but not many in Berlin. I wished Berlin entered into the story earlier on, but that didn't diminish from the novel at all. I really enjoyed this unusual story.

I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for this one, since it's set in New York City (though a fair amount is also set in LA/Hollywood.)

If you count the suburbs, London is the city that has been the setting for the most number of books I've read. If you don't count suburbs, than it's New York. Unexpectedly, the city after that is Toronto - there are a surprising number of books set in Toronto! (Mostly because of Margaret Atwood.) I would have liked to choose one of the global cities that isn't so common to my reading, but I wanted to fit Evelyn Hugo in at the end of the year.
